As some of you would have seen, I've only recently been fitted and i'm now gaming Titleist MB blades.
Well since getting them, my game has turned a corner….a wrong turn down a one way street at that. :mmm:

I have to accept defeat, although I'm a good ball striker. These things are so unforgiving I have slowly come to hate them. My S57's are going back into the bag and I've got a fitting booked at Ping to get the clubs I should have bought, either S55's or i25's, with the S55's being the 'right' choice.

If anyone fancies at 2month old 20 round set of Titleists in the spec below. Please get in touch, otherwise they are just going to get Part exchanged with my pro.

(Titleist MB 3-PW Project X 6.0 Shafts, 1/2" longer, titleist M80 golf pride grips, logo's down & 1/64" smaller grips) The shafts are £180 option upgrade.

Im all for making the game easier, this type of club looks nice in the bag, but i like a bit of help on days i can't hit a cows behind with a banjo:)

I was sorry to read this after all your expense on these clubs - must be tough. That said, it is not a major surprise as clubs like this, to some extent, make golf more difficult. This isn't in doubt. Play 18 holes with a set of Maxfli Australian blades and you will find it more difficult than with a set of Ping Eye 2's. It was true when these were the clubs everyone wanted and it is still true now.

There isn't much point making the game harder than it is....

Tempted as I am, all your post has done is proven to me that I mad the right decision at my fitting not letting my heart rule my head and going with the AP2s. I would dearly love to be able to hit MBs, I would dearly love to take them off of your hands, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to stick with my AP2s.

Sorry to hear you didn't get on with the blades.

20 rounds in the last 2 months is very impressive though!

Combos are the way to go imo! Benefits of both styles, losing the disadvantages of blades at whatever level you start the CBs.

Nike used to have a 3-step combo, but only 2-step now (too expensive apparently). Cleveland apparently allow you to combine any of their 588 sets, so a couple of (fugly but apparently effective) Altitudes might serve some well!

Hope the next fitting works out better.

That's why I went for the MP-54 option on the recent Mizuno fitting. The MP-4's looked ever so nice but I resisted the temptation to even try them, from what you have said above it would seem that I made the correct decision.

Can you not get a set of heads from Ping and then put the shafts from your Titleist's into them? or is the size of the hosel different on the Pings?

Wondering if you've explored the possibility of Titleist coming to some kind of arrangement with you to fit AP2 heads to your shafts. Assuming you've not found that the shafts some ways off what you want too.

Word of caution, if you've not got on with the MB's would think it might be a good idea to stay away from the S55's too, great looking club but not that forgiving in the general run of things, pretty high flight over all too which may not be what you're looking for maybes if you originally went for the MB's. If it's going to definitely be the Pings I figure the i25's might better deliver what you're looking for.

Couple of good Miz's too, in the 54's & 64's, Miz irons great sound great feel, took me eventually wearing out my 10 year old brilliant MP33's for me to change.

Very nearly went with the MP4's, nothing wrong with them got good 'numbers' in trying them, but tried and really liked the Apex Pro's (not normally a huge Cally fan) flight and 'numbers' too. Hard choice but in the end went for a bit of a change down purely to the 'numbers' & flight of the Apex Pro's, can recommend them for sure.

Don't get me wrong fellas, when you hit one out the dead centre it's purdy. But anything less than centre is short/left/right. It's not the head size, my s57's are only very very slightly bigger. It's how unforgiving they are. I have to admit to being a flag hunter, knowing that my selected club will go the distance and line is massive for me . I've lost that trust with the MB's.
The pings are back in the bag for good, I've gamed the s57's for 3 years without issue. If the s55's are just like there older brothers, I'll have no issue..

Sorry to hear that James. They are butter knives though and TBH I think there are + handicap pros that would shy away from them. Stick with the Pings you hit them really well and you had a good handicap drop with them. Most blades of this ilk are "Coming to a second hand shelf near you soon" type clubs.

Distance is good. 165 with a 7 iron on a true lofted iron surely means I'm loading the shaft fine.
I was massively inbetween clubs before the fitting, head saying S55 and heart saying MB's. End of the day it's only money, £300-400 to change clubs. Just enjoyed at myself I didn't choose the pings first after 3 years of love for my S57's

Unlucky buddy. You had said to me at the end of last summer that you were waiting for the S55 to come out but that you converted the Titleist blades. Your a quality ball striker but if the confidence is gone then it's S55 time :D

Play lots of golf with the club champion at Royal Musselburgh. He thinks the 57s are better than the 55s.

Those MB's are just stunning!! I went from S57's to blades.... very briefly. There's nowt much wrong with the swing James. Maybe a brief spell with your old clubs might help you regain your confidence.

But the MB's AND the swing changes you're trying to put in play is difficult.
