Arguably the most predictable of awards this year..... and well done for winning Wimbledon and all that.... but not being bothered to get on a plane to attend the award (after he must have guessed he was going to win?) OK I believe he was only training and it must oh so important and of course it is nice weather in Miami...... and then not bothering to even get ready for the interview on time (mummy had to step and talk rubbish for 10 mins to cover his arse) I'm at a loss what goes on in this blokes head. Why is it these super stars loose all touch with doing the right thing and act like complete chumps sometimes?

So whats best ....Be bothered turn up or you don't win it?
Is it because this award is such a waste of licence payers money and fixed? I mean come on... the trophy, presentation stands and Martina were all in place well before the voting had finished!
Should this be dumped for another episode of East Enders?

Really ?

He is a dedicated sportsman who is in training for a very big tournament coming up ?

Would you have posted the same if Farah had won ?

And how exactly is it fixed.

Thought last might Murray showed a bit of maturity in his interview and was very good.

Yes really! I'm not doubting his sporting credentials and ability and as I said he did brilliantly to win Wimbledon and is a fine athlete doing great things for British tennis.

I'm not sure he's training for a comp (I'd forgive him perhaps if it was the US Open) but more to get fit after an operation. A national recognised award voted by the public and he cant be bothered to turn up or get out of the shower on time.... Says a lot to me but then as I said I dont know what goes on his or in fact lots of these stars heads some times. If it was me Id be moving the earth to be there and personally, make the effort and say thank you. But then I dont think this guy really gives a monkeys which is perhaps the point.

yes I would have posted if Farah had won and is not competing somewhere. I actually think Ben Ainsley should have won.

As for it being fixed... I'm asking the question...seemed all a bit convenient that everything was ready for him. It had been suggested before that it, well, might not be completely free of manipulation.

Everything was ready for all the nominees just like every single year - someone was with Bell and also Farah if they won

And Murray is in training for the Australian Open - always is at this time of the year hence why he is out of the country over Xmas

And if you had listened to what he said then you would hear that it doesn't matter to him - greatly

The guy has been under massive pressure in his life from every single angle from media to people slating his personality

If people dont think he cares then see the reaction last year at Wimbledon then the Olympics then Wimbledon this year - the guy cares

What do you mean - 'everything was ready for him' Well as a favourite of course they would have had a camera team with him; and a cleb - Martina - lined up to do the presentations. And if you really believe that the trophy they handed over was the REAL SPOTY trophy...hmm - oh well.

And as far as him not being in Leeds for the presentation. He has just undergone BACK surgery in the states and is undergoing recuperation training and physio. Would YOU want to risk sitting on a plane from Miami to London then Leeds, and then back again in a period of a couple of days? Even willing to risk his back - he'd have to miss out of a good week+ of recuperation. Of course you wouldn't risk it. His not being there was absolutely sensible and appropriate.

I note that in the Daily Mail today the report on his interview started along the lines of 'he looked glum and unemotional for a few seconds after being told...' what a dolt is the reporter is - the satellite delay was obvious - THAT'S why he didn't react immediately Bradders announced him winning. Well done Andy. Top top guy.

They also had the stand and celeb on hand last year when he didn't win but did get one of the runner-up awards - remember Andy awarded himself the award as Lennox Lewis was being distracted the red LED on the top of the camera!

I totally agree with the Liverpoolphil, added to which, he is also recovering from back surgery and is doing everything in his powers to be ready for the Aussie Open.
Murray gets my full support and total admiration.

Slime.

He is a deserving winner for best sportsperson of the year, but personality? Mmm. Getting a bit better, though, the self deprecating thing probably works for him.

Ethan! Now stop it! You know the 'personality' bit of the award is anachronistic and it was never about an individuals 'personality'. Besides and as it happens - I think he has an brilliant personality - despite, as he himself admits, him coming across a bit dull - that's just his voice. We don't all go around whopping and hollering like idiots and grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
