I was told by a golfing pal that it was possible to put the Sky+ box through a computer to get HD reception without paying Sky extra for it. He said that a while back the likes of Comet did it before they got the HD boxes instore, to demonstrate the HD reception.

I am just intrigued as to whether this is true or not

Have to say that i've never heard of it, that doesn't mean it's not true...

I will say though, I can't imagine watching the golf (or any other sport) with a cold beer in front of the PC...

HD is worth the £10 IMHO

I dont think that this is possible. You can receive some FTA channels like BBC in HD without paying the £10 but thats about it.

Are you talking about putting the standard Sky+ box through a PC and getting HD or putting the SkyHD box through & getting channels you aren't paying for?

If it's the former, the only way is upscaling which isn't true HD, just a slightly fancier SD.

If the latter, then that's just not possible due to the encryption used.

I wasn't planning either, it's just I was told it could be done and wondered if it were true
