Sir Ian Poulter

It's not particularly about how well he plays golf week in week out - it's about how he shows such passion for his country and his continent. The Ryder Cup is the only place a golfer of Ian Poulter's caliber can play as a team, and in the Ryder Cups he has played in he's shown what a fantastic team player he really is. You see footballers and other 'team' players get rewards galore for being part of a team, even though they're not top goalscorer or had the most runs or whatever - Ian Poulter, IMO, gave Europe that glimmer of hope they needed at the end of Saturday to take their heads high into Sunday. He played the best team sport he could as a golfer!

And he also had a 100% record so, that goes for him too. Get him in front of the Queen ASAP.

Absolutely correct. :whoo:

Monty is miserable on the course, it's always been a strain for him to force a smile. I dont doubt his passion for the game and that he is quite a 'nice' person but he is no IJP when it comes to passion and spirit.

8 European tour order of merits (including 7 in a row) and unbeaten in 8 Ryder Cup singles matches and being a winning captain would suggest different. Some players do it with their play some players shout when they hole things, does it make you any better if your loud?

Yes Monty is a miserable sod, but so is Sir Alex Ferguson and various other knights.

On the world stage he is better than average.....IMO

Im not so sure, Matchplay is his bag but unfortunately for him it's twice a year individually and every 2 years for the RC.

His last stroke play win was almost 2 years ago and he hasnt won a stroke play event on the PGA tour yet despite playing there for a number of years now. Has to be remembered, 4 RC's and only 1 automatic qualifer, im sure he was a wildcard in his first one too along with 2008 and 2012.

Cracking player but Im at a loss why he doesn't perform better week in week out.

I agree completely.

Monty would be miles ahead of Poulter... who (it just so happens) comes across as an arrogant, fist pumping, miserable sod most of the time too. Poulter is hardly mr frikkin smiley on the course.

It's nothing to do with being Scottish, I'd give Westwood it ahead of Poulter, he deserves it more.

Yeah.. that is rubbish you're talking now...

I'm not a Westwood hater, but as far as the team game goes, which BTW is what the thread is all about, there is no-one better than Poults.

One of the sky sports commentators called him a modern day Seve. That's a bit of a push I know, but it shows he's more than just an 'average' golfer.

Pretty much sums it up for me. I don't think he merits it, but happy for the lad if he gets it (if that makes sense).

Still waiting to hear how SocketRocket knows Colin is a miserable loner.

Making things up maybe?

you've misheard, he asked Westwood if Poulter was a modern day Seve? completely different.

There is no modern day Seve, he was a one off and never repeated.

Rubbish you say, the thread is not about the team it's about Poulter deserving a knighthood, Westwood deserves it more for contribution to british and European golf. That said there are many ahead of Westwood too.

All I'm saying is, he didn't ask if anyone else is a modern day Seve! I know there can only be one Seve, but the point of Poulter being something more than just another golfer is being made.

He deserves a knighthood.

Given he has played in 8 and has won in excess of 20 points then absolutely.

We can to and fro this all day - Ian Poulter's role in this Ryder Cup was possibly the most significant. He's done tremendous things in all 4 Ryder Cup teams he's played in. I personally think he's the reason Europe made a comeback Sunday.

But you go ahead and douse those flames.

Bottom line is that I'd guess IJP would be embarrassed somewhat at being offered a Knighthood...

Whereas CM [I believe] feels cheated of not been having offered the chance...

Did you know Poulter up till this RC had the same record as Luke Donald and this year scored just one point more?

Hardly head and shoulders above everyone.

Im not dousing any flames, just pointing to facts. You on the other hand are trying to make Poulter into something he isnt.
