Sir Ian Poulter

Poulter is a magnificent example of how to make a wee bit talent and bucket loads of guts go along way.Possibly the least talented player on the European team, but the biggest fighter by a country mile.So well done Poults.

As for knighthoods, I couldn't care any less.

What he said.....and did he not win last years Aussie Masters???

I think we are forgetting about the rest of the guys Poulter had a great Ryder Cup as usual but the Ryder cup is a TEAM event, Luke Donald , Garcia, Lawrie, Rose Poulter, putting those first 5 points on the board gave the rest of the team the inspiration to go on and get the job done.it DEFLATED the Americans and Martin Kaymer puts his putt 7ft past then nails it coming back for the win thats rocks of steel.Sorry Poulter great player great Ryder cup but Knighthood you can't be serious.

Great post

Still waiting to hear how SocketRocket knows Colin is a miserable loner.

Making things up maybe?

It's just my opinion, you can ignore it if it makes you happy. You just have to look at him, what do the yanks call him? Mrs Doubtfire

Not sure I'd agree that Ian Poulter should get a Knighthood.

However I think he's certainly a worthy candidate for Sports Personality of the Year.

Ian Poulter epitomises what a sports personality is after his showing on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.

His passion, enthusiasm, commitment, will to win and never say die attitude is what shone through in abundance this past weekend.

And well done Europe, one and all, for giving me the pleasure of witnessing what has to be one of the greatest sporting achievements I have ever seen.

Golfmmad. :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

+one for Ollie :whoo:

Poulter will not get one and to be honest isn't deserving of one. Faldo was the last golfer to get one and look at his record. Monty it could be argued has done a lot but that missing major will be the casting vote on why he won't get one. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the RC team get something like and OBE like some of the cricketers did. If they are giving awards then surely Ennis, Farrah etc have a stronger case

Knighthoods are usually for people who have excelled in their field at the very top level consistently for a number of years and Poulter is some distance from achieving that.
Well, they used to be, but now it seems to be a bit of a "oooh, didn't you do well in something recently. Have a gong!". How many of the England cricket team who won the ashes and were knighted fit in the bracket Birchy mentions?

It really p8sses me off when people call for knighthoods at the drop of a hat, as I feel it cheapens those who have, as stated above, excelled for years.

Wouldn't bother me who had them as I'm hardly likely to qualify for one.

There should be an understanding that whoever has one should be on the frontline in any conflicts we have, after all they're supposed to be KNIGHTS!

I don't think he should get a knighthood, but I'd love him on my side in a tight matchplay situation. The guy is an inspiration.
He's one of us. For that, we should be thankful.

Nothing but total respect for Ian Poulter. But no knighthood yet. When he wins a major (possibly) and captains a winning Ryder Cup team (definitely) he might be in with a shout.

I wonder if he can take a boost from his amazing performance in the RC into his solo career and capture a major? I hope so!

It's such a shame the Ryder Cup is at the end of the season, if it was at the beginning imagine the high he would be on, he have a great chance of a major then!!

I've always liked the guy, his competitive nature is inspirational. But no, not for me has he done anything more than 1000's of other pro athletes.

Loved the 17th, Poulter plays first, then stands to the side and stares Simpson straight in the eye!

Worth pointing out that during the mayhem and madness of Sunday, both Poulter and Donald were urging the crowd to quieten down while their opponents played their shots. Which shows he has respect too.

The better bit of that came when he took the putter out the bag and stood just in Simpsons eyeline and started to clean the putter grip with his towel!!!! "Look at me pal I'm on the green and I have your arse in a sling"

Brilliant bit of gamesmanship!

For me a classic bit of Seve matchplay 'tactic'... Especially as the day was dedicated to the great man!

First class from Poulter, sent a message right away to Simpson who is a decent player himself.

Ian Poulter is not everyones cup of tea but I've always enjoyed watching the cocky swagger and arrogance he has, I'd love to see him win a major and would love him to win a biggie on the PGA tour (the Memorial or something that big) but he just doesnt seem to bring his matchplay form to strokeplay events. His last 3 Ryder cups have been fantastic for him but since the 2008 Ryder Cup he has unsurprisingly won both the WGC Matchplay and the Accenture Matchplay plus 2 events in Asia 4 wins in 4 years but he is a better player than that and im surprised he hasnt won a strokeplay event on the PGA tour. He actually has a reasonable major record this year, think he was top 10 in 2 or 3 from memory, he certainly was at the PGA championship and Masters for definate.

I think a few are getting a bit over excited by the moment....
I don't think any sports people should get a knighthood. It devalues the award for people who have really done something.

BTW Monty is a good laugh off the course..loves his football as well. Quite knowledgeable on the subject.
