Sir Ian Poulter

Not sure I'd agree that Ian Poulter should get a Knighthood.

However I think he's certainly a worthy candidate for Sports Personality of the Year.

Ian Poulter epitomises what a sports personality is after his showing on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.

His passion, enthusiasm, commitment, will to win and never say die attitude is what shone through in abundance this past weekend.

Absolutely no chance. Especially in this sporting year. He's currently about 190 to 1 on Betfair, and you don't see many poor bookies.

SPOTY will be

1) Wiggo
2) Mo Farrah (assuming he doesn't refuse to give an acceptance speech as he's granted an exclusive to OK magazine)
3) Andy Murray

Think there's another couple which could be in the mix (Pendleton, Hoy, Ennis) but unfortunately, no golfers this year. And, to be fair, Rory should be above IJP in the list for his achievements this year ...

Wiggo will take the cycling vote so no chance for Hoy and Pendleton. Ennis has a slight chance. But there can be as much misogyny at SPOTY as there is in the R&A. So I don't think she'll win it.

Oh Please.

No sportsman should get a knighthood for doing his job, no scratch that no person should get a knighthood just for doing their job. They should be given at the end of a long and distinguished career, having excelled at whatever you do and putting back into your community/sport. Not for three or four good days doing your job.

OK then, most dont rank him for a knighthood, I can understand that. How about Lord Poults of Woburn? It's got a kind of nice ring to it. If Presser and Sugar can get one!!

Couldn't have put it better myself

Sir Ian Poulter - nah - don't be silly ;)

Making a section of the UK populace pleased once every two years does not in itself merit a knighthood - or indeed any particular 'honour' other than the thanks of that particular bunch of folk.

In truth I reckon that honours system is corrupt and dishonoured - and that honours should only be bestowed on those who put themselves out above and beyond what they have to do in life to the benefit of the wider society - so mostly voluntary work. And rich folk 'giving'. Well yes - but only if they really do give more than just their money. True sacrifice.

Because that is what so many people who really deserve recognition do - they sacrifice of themselves - they don't just give. Sacrifice is giving to your own real detriment. How many celebs actually do that.

So the brilliant RCupper IanP stays the brilliant RCupper IanP - recognised for his lifetime, and possibly beyond, for his contribution to the history of the Ryder Cup and European success.

What about putting him forwards for beatification whilst you're at it?
