Should caddies just be bag carriers?

They are part of a players "team" along with coaches, management, fitness etc. They are hardly poorly paid (unless you grab Kuchar's bag as a local bagman)

They are part of a modern golfers team and merely performing their tasks as per they job description. Not a poor look in a modern world (your words) when they are rewarded so well for doing what is required of them

Ah right. Sorry when I wrote poor, I didn't mean it in the financial sense. I meant it was not a good look. If you look at it objectively, the caddie is a servant paid to do the jobs that are beneath the player.

What kind of sport is it ok to employ a servant to carry your luggage around for you and perform menial tasks (like clean your clubs or measure distance). It’s not a good look in the modern world.

Curling. The player has skivvies who follow their stone and have to sweep at a crazy speed, all to try to make their master, who played the shot, look good.
