Should golf be more judgemental?

Now this is a very weird coincidence.
I bought a full set of Sam Snead Blue Ridge and a set of Ben Sayers Mentor irons within two days of each other.
The Mentors are late 80s early 90s, less than 40 years old, and I sold them 2 years later for a tidy profit. Many consider them to be a very fine classic club.

I love a good tangent when the thread is bonkers anyway. ;)

My first complete set were Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge circa 1974. Bought for £8 an iron.

Edit; as per @rulie

These look newer (and more like Haig Ultra) than the ones that I purchased (maybe was in 1963?)

Well...there is plenty in the way of judgmental stuff about the ladies game. BTW - ask the obvious question and the answer is currently usually Charley Hull...does that make her #1 in the world? well maybe not. Aha! the flaw in anything judgmental - it's subjective. ;)

Without being judgemental what are you on about 🤣

Without being judgemental I am sure that you can imagine what sort of judgements are made of lady golfers.

BTW - I only note this in jest given the view expressed in the OP of this thread
I think LT response has beaten me to it and sums up my thoughts well. That perhaps you need to surround yourself with better people.

With the exception of one incident that happened last year at a course I played. I haven’t seen or heard any negatives towards woman’s golf since the late 90s when there were still a large number of older misogynistic men still lording it over clubs committees and memberships.

On here everyone seems nothing but positive towards ladies and I’m seeing huge uptake in participation from women at driving ranges and golf clubs I go to, all without bias and nothing but encouragement to a new wave of ladies golfers coming through.

My original post was entirely tongue in cheek. However in support of SILH who as far as I can see is a big supporter of women's golf I think sometimes women golfers are judged on appearance as well as ability..
I think there is sometimes a fine line between admiring someone's appearance and objectifying them

I think you may have also missed the point of the thread

It was more about “judging” someone’s golf game in regards to what they score akin to judges in other sports

As opposed to casting judgements on people

There is an “issue” - maybe that’s not the right word but it’s very prevalent when it comes to social media and you tuber “golfers”

There was a big thing created by Paige and Jazzy Golfer etc about how women shouldn’t be “sexualised” when it comes to the sport

Yet both are very happy to use their body etc to gain the followers they need to become popular and then make it a “career”

Now there are a lot of them on social media

It is tough for ladies because it doesn’t matter how good they are the male population won’t care - they follow because of their looks

Sorry that’s diverted the thread and hope that read ok 😖

I don’t disagree at all, but that’s not a golfing issue that’s a societal problem in every walk of life.
It’s always been true that sex sells.
It’s used by pretty much every industry to promote products, why should golf be different.
And if some ladies want to use that to gain an income then good luck to them.

Whenever I have played with a female golfing partner or been in their company it is always respectful and still lots of fun and banter flying around.
If I heard someone say something out of line I would speak to them but that’s the case in any scenario.

I’m in complete agreement with how people want to use that to promote themselves or brand more power to them.

Likewise golf shouldn’t be single out for misogyny or over sexualising when the issue is everywhere in all walks of life.

I certainly do call out anything untoward on and off the course.

I’m sorry…but you and others are taking my ‘judgemental’ comment out of context of the ‘judgemental’ aspect of the OP - and far, far too seriously…absurdly seriously.

Besides…who mentioned negativity towards ladies golf. Surely to goodness it’s obvious that I, and all of those I surround myself with at my golf club, view ladies golf in a very positive light.

Honestly…🙄

Exactly what I was alluding to…but clearly wasn’t clear enough in my disdain for those who judge women’s golf and golfers by their looks.

Think you have missed the point again

I’m talking the social media “influencers” etc who are using their looks to gain the popularity

When it comes to professionals and prob club golfers 99.99% will judge them on performance

Hmmmm

Who are the most attractive/best looking male golfers in the top echelon of pros?

Adam Scott? Viktor Hovland?

Or do you prefer Tommy Fleetwood and/or Ricky Fowler?

Always a tough one for many blokes to answer. :giggle::giggle::giggle:
