If Rule 14-2b was altered in the way I suggested, neither a caddie or a playing partner would be allowed to stand directly behind the player's line of play once he or she is in the process of taking his or her stance. Essentially players would be responsible for their own alignment, as is the case anyway for players without caddies or PP's. Caddies and PP's would still be allowed to advise on which line to take and which club to use, etc
So what if a Caddie, or Playing Partner, notices a fault that has crept into a player's swing. Should they also be prevented from pointing this out/checking on it? There's no real difference between that concept and the lining-up one!
And, as Homer and a zillion others, have posted, why do you feel the need to change Rules that merely displease you? I don't particularly like the Offside Rule in Football, the Forward Pass and Scrum Feed Rules in Rugby Union and a couple of Umpire/Referee related ones in Cricket. But that doesn't mean I want to be changed - not even the Offside one!
