Voted "don't care" mainly because it's posted by Delc and it really won't matter to him what anyone else thinks, says or does!

It would have been nice if you had considered the issue, rather than pursuing your vendetta against me. Don't know what I have done to upset you? :(

Voted "No" because as I said in the other thread, anchored putters were similarly ignored and glossed over for a while until their true role as the devil's spawn was recognised.

They were OK until players started to win majors with them! Could be a good case for banning short putters, as 99.9% of majors have been won with them. (Only kidding!). :D

No vendetta Del, I just cant stand posters who drone on about issues, won't listen to anyone else's points of view, never accept that there is the remotest chance that they are wrong, make claims about facts to back up their arguments that are fairly obviously flawed!

Other than that I'm sure that you are a really super guy!

Wow, not many on here that you like then Chris........

Just to transfer a point from another thread. Standing behind a player to check his alignment is really coaching, which should not be part of a bag carrier's role. Assistance as in Rule 14-2 should start from the moment the player takes his stance and the caddie should have no further involvement after that. :)

A caddie is not just a bag carrier. The definition in the rules book says that a caddie is "one who assists the player in accordance with the rules, which may include carrying or handling the players clubs during play"

Once again Del, you want to change the rules when there is absolutely no need to.

As for a caddie coaching, do you not think that a caddie doesn't tell his pro things during the round that are effectively coaching, he may say, for example " put the 4 iron away and play a lay up with a 9 iron" which if a fellow competitor said it, it would be against the rules.

Think that is just advice rather than coaching! Playing partners and caddies are already allowed to give advice within the rules. :)

If a caddie stands behind a player and says "yes mate that is the correct line", or " you just need to move a liitle left" that is giving advice and not coaching in any sense of "coaching" as I understand the word.

You may think that, but I couldn't possibly comment! :)

I have absolutely no issue with the lining up thing at all, its their choice and within the rules so why not. The player still has to execute the shot.

But being properly aligned must help! I am proposing a minor change to an existing rule that would prevent caddies from lining up their players from behind the line of play. :)

Can I just ask.

Why are you so passionate about a rule changed that has no bearing on how you, personally, play?

As an aside.

If you were in a doubles match, can your partner line you up, in EXACTLY the way a caddie does without penalty?

And who exactly are you proposing this to? And how, through what medium? Why dont you just post your rule book to the R&A and say I want all these rules changed rather than choosing a new one each day or two and posting it on here (invariably without reading it first so you actually get the rule incorrect anyway).

#justsaying.....
