Played in first round of the Hargrove trophy , played for by clubs in Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Off to a good start, par and birdie to be two up then a run of holes halved to par before we gave 4 holes away to be two down after 10.
Picked it up by winning next 5 holes in two under and halved the 16 th to win 3&2 . Have to play out to end , still 3 up.

Team won overall 3-0 so should be a formality to go through to next round after the away leg.

First time my partner and I had played together and in this format as well ( have done mixed with HiD ) and both agreed it takes some getting used to as it's a bit stop start, only putted on 3 holes on the back nine.

welcome to the best format in golf.

I would agree with that, the purest form of golf IMO.

For me it's the complete test of every aspect of the game - body and mind. If you got on well with your partner and enjoyed it - see if you can stick with him. Enjoyable and successful pairing don't usually just happen overnight - they evolve.

Singles Strokeplay and Singles Matchplay are ahead in 'purity' imo.

But in terms of Team formats..... perhaps!

Just not enough Golf played for me! Though, if played properly, it can be very quick - faster than a Single even!

Purest form of golf when you only play half a round? - not for me, youre just talking tradition. So glad I now play in an area where none of the scratch golf is foursomes

Why? Historically, tactically.....just curious.

a] It is a level game. No luck involved as with fourball/greensomes.ie in better ball you could score 10 on the odd holes and 3 on the even holes and your partner could do the opposite and you would score 54.

b] You need to adapt your game/shots/thinking to suit your partner and vice versa.

c] You need to be tough mentally and have a good bond with your partner to cope with the varied way the game is played. One of you will always play better on a specific day. It is how the partner who plays the poorer game copes that will determine the result of the match.

its hardly street racing cars Doon lol, lets not go overboard

The old Longniddry Foursomes [don't know if it is still going] was 36 holes Pro Am scratch foursomes.
Great fun and rounds completed in under 2.5 hours [yes I know under 5 hours for 36 holes!!! unbelievable nowadays eh!]
Started at 8.30 with the presentation around 6pm, generally about 50 to 60 pairs playing.

That's the way that golf should be played ... Excluding a doctors certificate, there's no reason why a better golfer should give a hacker shots "just because they're rubbish"! Yeah right, jog on :D :D :D

I don't quite get the implied sarcasm......Scratch foursomes are generally only played at club match and county/region or international level, no problem with that as you will only get picked if you are good enough.

Just played 72 holes of it this weekend, 36 the weekend before and 18 this weekend. I find it good fun and a great test of golf.

Makes a change from being 'on your own' out there in single events, it's nice to have a bit of company to go through the ups and downs of the game and it generally does get you round a hell of a lot quicker.

Purest form of golf ?! nonsense - all golf is pure regardless of what game or handicap is used .

this is the format of one ball between two players right? an abomination to golf- you carry 14 sticks to occasionaly use a few of them- its just a holiday trip for your clubs:thup: purest form of golf! what poppycock:rofl:
