Scratch foursomes

I'm beginning to wonder if people are talking about the same game:confused:

You need to try and enjoy scratch foursomes for what it is - not for what it isn't. If when playing foursomes you go round bemoaning the fact that you are only hitting every other shot and 'not getting a proper round of golf' then you'll never be able to appreciate it.

great format and test not only your skill in shot-making but course management, and friendship, still not forgive my mate for leaving me 5ft down hill puts when my turn,as opposed to kick in birdies when he had the flat stick.

Quite - scratch 4sms matchplay is a real challenge working out how best the two of you can get a golf ball into the hole at the same time as your opponents are having to do the same - both pairs trying to do it in fewer strokes than the other :)

I have little to no interest in Foursomes, i played a club match earlier this year for my club in this format and really didnt enjoy it. i hit 34 shots in 18 holes. I'd rather practice for the three hours it took.

In my opinion (not saying its right or wrong) golf is an individual sport, if i wanted to let down someone or be let down due to my poor performance i'd take up a team game.

Ryder Cup wouldn't exist were it not a team competition.

And?

He prefers golf as an individual sport. As do I. It's the reason I play golf and not football. Hate letting people down. MUCH prefer football as a sport.

I am just saying that golf can be a lot more than just a sport for the individual - and some of the greatest enjoyment you can get out of golf is playing as part of a team or in a team format (such as foursomes). Golf isn't (just) an individual sport - though clearly @MendieGK prefers individual formats. Fine. It just takes time to appreciate how good formats such as scratch foursomes can be - that's all.

Whilst i see golf as an individual sport i'd be lying if i said i didnt enjoy 4BBB, however, there is still an individual element to this, you are playing your own ball. Its the same as playing singles matchplay within a team.

The idea of working all week only to turn up at golf on the weekend and hit less than 40 shots just doesnt appeal to me. My recent experiences have been tarnished further by the fact my playing partner was hitting 'good' drives and leaving me 240yds into par 4's. cheers!

I would personally disagree with the 'most enjoyment' comment too, i can assure you the idea of winning the mens club champs/scratch KO etc etc appeals to me far more than winning a team event. But thats just me, not saying i am wrong or right. All forms of Golf are fun and better than being at work!

Well...Interesting format...

I certainly prefer formats where I get to play full round's worth of shots. But it does nicely emphasise course management.

Unlike 4BBB where there's no advantage if you both play it well - and no loss if 1 of you plays it poorly - 4somes tests/rewards/punishes both players (the team) for either players play. Not sure about testing 'friendships' though. If friendship can change based on the the results of a round of Golf, as opposed to the fact of having one, then it's pretty shallow imo!

You don't like 4BBB, Texas Scramble, Yellow ball, Hidden Pin etc etc?
