Scottish Fitba'

Over 7000 at the Perth Saints vs Dundee Utd game on Saturday...of which 2700 were United fans, which means diddy Saints pulled in over 4300 home support. Not bad given the population of Perth is about 47,000.

The support is there - as was the win. Four pts from last two games sees Saints only needing one win to most probably be safe. Suggests changing manager was done JIT - though could still be too late. Fingers crossed,

I've been to junior games with crowds of a few thousand.

OK.
Glasgow has a population of about 500 000. 100 000 of them go to Ibrox or Celtic Park every home game.
Whataboot the NI contingents...never mind those from the rest of Scotland. Besides - making any sort of comparison between either of Celtic or Rangers and any team other than maybe the Edinburgh main pair is surely nonsensical - and I think you know that. But OK - if you think a crowd of over 7000 for a Tayside derby is nothing to write home about then fine.

NI, a couple of hundred at Ibrox I'd imagine. I compared the likes of St. J with junior teams, that didn't go down well either. 🤣

Put a good product out and the crowds will be there every week.

Difficult when much, if not most, of Scotland sees Scottish football through GW&G or RW&B specs. But the smaller teams can but try - and that starts by convincing the young boy and girl that the product offered by the Glasgow pair is in some ways less than wholesome or attractive..

Thing is Scotland is a small place. Population of Yorkshire is about the same.

Just turned on the Partick v Queens Park play off.
Tiny crowd, pretty, no, very poor.
attendance was 3,784.

That's about average for Thistle, and more than a lot of clubs get. Queen's Park have a very small fanbase, their average home crowd is around 600.

Would have thought they would get a bit more for a play off game, but I'm assuming it was televised? That would have taken a good number off the gate.

That's way more than it looks on TV, so that's good.

QP are effectively a new club, and I’m guessing their home is almost equidistant between Ibrox and Parkhead. So not easy to build a local support base.

But as said…if they’d been (even semi-) professional back when I was a lad getting into watching football…with Hampden all of maybe not even 200yds as the crow flies from our close’s washhouse (and midden)…I could easy have been a supporter. They are, of course, these days my 2nd Scottish club.
