I am livid. I thought I would be the last person to fall for a scam. But I trusted this golf monthly forum as a safe site.

When clicking onto forum to make a post, a pop up appeared claiming to be golf monthly with a quick survey. Being Loyal and trusting to golf monthly, I completed it. To my surprise I was then asked to select prize draw I would like to be entered into. Along with mobile number. I then received a text telling me I was being charged £4.50 per month until I text stop to 88990. It doesn’t work. I can’t text to that number.

Just what is going on?

Inform you bank to stop payments being made to this scam. You might need to let one go through so you can identify which recipient it is.

This might not be golf Monthlys fault. You might have some spyware on you computer which cleverly picks up on which site you are viewing and using some programming can ask some seemingly genuine questions. Did you put in you bank details? If it was a survey why would you so I can't see how they can take money off you

Also make sure you set you anti-virus and spam protection to prevent pop ups. I would update all virus software, run scans, Make sure your registry is clean. Before you do anything else. Also never complete anything from pop-up, only ever do stuff through trusted sites with direct links, and even then if you're unsure ask in the forum or email the site support teams to check if they are genuine.

Better to be safe than sorry.

If you entered your phone number and didn't enter any payment details then it's nothing. Just don't send a text because it'll cost you a bomb. I always get texts from someone telling me how much compensation I'm entitled to - i just have to reply to their premium-rate text number to get it all!
