I played in a comp at home track on Sunday. Didn't play great but played to handicap.

I contacted the club to check the results as they get posted the day after, and was told that the seniors were playing in the same comp but teeing off the following day???????????

Is this normal, common or acceptable at other clubs. I was shocked when they told me the results would only go up today due to seniors playing on the Monday and not the Sunday with everyone else.

Not sure but I think that of the top 10 played on the Monday. The weather here was warmer less windy and drier than on the Sunday I know I would have preferred the conditions on the Monday.

What do others think about these circumstances?

Happened all the time at my old club except it was Saturday and Sunday. You could play either day but all scores lumped together.
Those playing Sunday could also play the course Saturday so were able to get a feel for the pin positions. CSS was done for the whole weekend in one.
I complained once as Saturday was glorious and Sunday horrific weather. CSS saturday would have gone down, on Sunday it would have been RO....nothing changed..

It seems really strange to me, I'm relatively new to the game compared to many but in view of fairness and true competition believe that the comp should all be played same day, if need be and the issue is tee time start half the groups from the 10th Tee.

our midweek comps are all week, you can play any day monday to friday. personally the benefits of being able to play when you choose and hence getting far more entries outweight the disadvantages that can occur (albeit i believe its not actually allowed by egu rules as they only calc one css). not sure its right for a board comp etc but fine for a monthly midweek medal/stableford imo

We tend to only have competitions over the bank holiday that allow you to pick to play on a particular day over the period and these are definitely announced in advance. Seems a bit off to run it on the quiet

it's normal (alternate day comp) but it's not acceptable to have restrictions on which day individuals can play - you indicate that this was the case, but I suspect this may just have been a turn of phrase?

Some Months we have a Friday/Saturday medal to cater for the high numbers playing. The CSS will be set each day to reflect any differing playing conditions.

Medals/Stablefords are played over two days (Saturday and Sunday) at my club, midweek comps are played Wednesday only.
The majority play on a Saturday, obviously not everybody is able to play on a Saturday,so playing the comp over two days allows for a bigger field.

That's just wrong, CSS should be set for each day. My old club used to do Saturday or Sunday for comps but with separate CSS

As a couple above, ALL our comps are over Saturday & Sunday. The only difference being though that you cant play or practice on the course on Saturday if you want to play the comp on Sunday. You'd have to play your comp round on Saturday and your bounce match on Sunday. UNLESS you are playing a proper club match on the Saturday (ie: Surrey 5's, match against a different club etc. Then you can play your match on the Saturday and still enter the comp on Sunday).

Everything is lumped together under one CSS, which works fine.

How can it work fine having one CSS when it is supposed to reflect the difficulty of the course on a specific day? Surely CSS has to be calculated for each day to make handicapping accurate. Doing one CS makes a mockery of an already odd concept

EDIT: I just found this response from Rosecott on another thread about two day comps and CSS...

The unequivocal CONGU rule is that a separate CSS must be calculated when one round of a qualifying competition is played over more than one day. The club's handicapping sotware should allow the scores from the 2 days to be combined for prize allocations but CSS has to be calculated separately. I suppose the club could fiddle it by assigning the date of the second round to cards from both days.

Our club used to do this but stopped because of the potential change in westher. Now, weekend comps are medal on sat then stableford on sunday. next time iy will be sableford on sat and medal on sunday.

Our midweek comps wete all week when i joined first but to create a css for each day was difficultt or impossible when only two entered on any individual day. Now they are on Wednesday.

When you first think about playing different days for the same comp. it appears unfair, but consider a club medal played on a long summer day when perhaps the first part of the day is calm and warm but the afternoon windy and wet. Just luck of the draw.

Possibly the only fair comp. regarding weather is a shotgun start?
