You can't ignore the personal side though. Foursomes is a tough format, I think it's easier to form a good team with someone you already have a bond with - when it comes to putting your teammate in the crap and so on!If captaincy of the RC was as much of a ‘thing’ as everyone says it is, there really ought to be pairings made (esp in Foursomes) based on the strengths and characteristics of the golfers game — and not as basic as ‘they’re from the same country (or island), they should be paired together’ — a 10 yr old could come up with pairings as simple as that![]()

Interesting to read about course set up. Reason to expect birdies. 1st has had the tee brought forward so it's in range with driver. Par 3 17th has a grandstand around it, at Bradley's request, so it's been reduced from 200+ to 170-190.
Most importantly the rough has been reduced from up to 5" to no more than 2.25".

Completely agree with that. Most of the players are bomb and gouge specialists these days, so maybe cutting down the rough doesn't favour the US as much as it used to. As you say, it'll just be a putting competition. I think our team is a fair bit stronger than theirs, so it will just be a case of whether we can overcome their home advantage or not.Bomb and gouge baby!
TBF all the players are well used to this sort of fare now, the bygone days of Euro tour v USA tour are in the past so is likely less of factor. But it probably plays into it becoming a putting competition - and we have seen how that often plays out on away legs....
100% agree with this, however I have put money on the fact that I don’t think we will. Happy to lose it though if we do beat them.Completely agree with that. Ryder Cup rejection causes Sergio Garcia to withdraw from Irish Open
Garcia, the highest-scoring Ryder Cup player in history, wasn’t selected by Luke Donald to be part of Team Europe at Bethpage Black this monthwww.independent.co.uk
Is Sergio not all there in the head? He can't seriously have believed he was going to be in the team can he? That's some top tier delusion there if he did.
“I felt like I was so looking forward to being a part of that team, and so I felt like mentally, you know, mentally it was kind of tough."
Absolute screw loose!
Why's he talking rubbish now then? Excuse for dropping out of this week's event? He said back in May he wasn’t playing well enough to be picked. I don’t think he ever thought he was going to be picked to play unless he’d had a big upturn in form.

I think he was eyeing up a vice captain role - which there was one slot open, that went to NorenIt might well be. Maybe he was hoping to be part of Luke's team working on the sidelines - but I don't think anybody including Sergio thought he'd done enough to play his way into the team. He looked pretty content with life watching Alcaraz at the tennis the same day anyhow.
