If SA didn't have Weghorst on kicking duty, it may have been a different story. 🤣😉

Doesn’t help also not having a proper hooker as well - cost them a few times.

SA threw it away a little

We really should have won that game by 10 points tonight.

Can’t win a World Cup without a decent kicker to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Ireland defence was class though and they compete at the breakdown so bloody well.
Luckily you have a decent kicker in the squad now. Pollard to start the next match?

What a game of Rugby, absolutely brutal from start to finish.
The winner of the world cup has to be South Africa or Ireland, they've looked a level above everyone else so far.
It's pretty shocking how they are in the same group though, 1 & 2 should be on opposite ends of the draw.

France might have a say in it as well. Surely one of those 3, clear water between those and the rest.

Just an absolutely brilliant test match. A worthy game of the top two teams in the world.

There will be some sore bodies in camp this morning. That was just a brutal contest physically.

The only alternative I can think of is perhaps that whoever emerges from that side of the draw is so battered from their route to the final that they run out of puff when they get there, compared to a (likely) Wales/England/Oz/Arg representative who will probably have more left in the tank.

I'll admit I'm clutching at straws there though

Beyond ridiculous that Scotland, ranked 5 in the world, are in a group with 1 and 2.

Meanwhile England (ranked 6) get the 10th and 11th ranked sides.

The groups were done ages ago when the rankings were different and scotland weren’t 5th and England were higher

I think the other teams are just too far behind but I get your point. I think it is good for both teams last night that the game occurred then, not in a couple of weeks time. Enough recovery time thankfully (not because I like either team, I just want the best teams in the final)

I wouldn’t discount NZ just yet , it wouldn’t surprise me to see them do over SA in the QF

yes, it was done 3 years ago. how stupid is that?

It’s there qualifying criteria that they have always used , no idea why

Very. Not sure I understand the reasoning behind it 🤷‍♂️

I did hear it explained once, it sounded pretty weak to me. Admittedly in the past it was not too much of an issue but this time round the draw is woefully lopsided with the top five teams (per rankings) on the same side of the draw - and it should be noted in response to the World Rugby defence that you have to give people some notice, those rankings have not changed massively in the last eighteen months and had the draw been done at any point in that time four of the top five would have been in that same side.

Obviously, there is an argument that the best side would want to beat everyone anyway. But as we saw with England four years ago when they came through the hard side of the draw, its easy to have had your final before the actual final.

Would be a massive surprise for everyone involved if New Zealand beat SA in the QF. Since for this to happen Italy would have to beat France or Scotland would have to thrash Ireland. Possible I guess but a massive surprise.

Lions will have no problem taking Australia apart next year unless they really up their game.
Wales and Australia looking like shadows of their former selves.
