They have gone the same route as football in some respects. Over complicated the rules which does lead to more interpretation required. In the past the TMO played the replays, answer was pretty clear (especially swayed by the ref's call, aka umpires decision). Now...take yer pick!

Are we ignoring the no arms tackles by Russell, or the neck rolls/tackles by Scots?

Both teams were lucky to keep 15 on the pitch.

Like you, I'm no expert but I believe that the ball has to go backwards (or flat) in relation to the player making the pass. If, for instance, the passing player is running at speed, then a "backwards" pass could actually be going forward in relation to the ground due to it's forward momentum.

So, a forward pass.

I think that the relavent part is in red. A player running at (say) 15mph would have to throw the ball directly backwards at more than that speed for it not to appear to go forward relative to the ground.

To clarify In both codes of rugby the direction of the pass is relative to the player making the pass and not to the actual path relative to the ground. A forward pass occurs when the player passes the ball forward in relation to himself.

The direction a player’s hands are going is important.
If the hands are going backwards but the ball goes forwards it’s ok.

A little bit gutted for Fiji there - they were excellent and prob deserved to get something. Would never expect Radradra to not pick that up and go in and score

If France beating All Blacks in match 1 wasn't enough to raise the profile of the tournament, then the excitement of the last 10 mins of Wales v Fiji should surely ensure the tournament is a huge success.

Great game! Fiji just couldn't take that chance at the end
and it fell to the person you would want it too

Naaaa Tuisova was the one passing it when you'd want him on the end of it there.

What a game though, not the most clinical but end to end excitement!

I knocked playing on the head earlier this year and said to my missus yesterday that the magic had gone - I could watch without wanting to play now... this game may have changed my mind again 🤣.
