I'm no rugby expert and I have a question.
How far 'forward' can the ball be thrown before it's 'a forward pass'?
I'm wondering why they don't just use VAR. Rather like an offside, it should be a matter of fact where the ball was released and where it finished up.
Maybe the forward speed of the thrower makes it more complicated?

It certainly looked forward but the commentary was very dismissive of it. The plus side was they didn't waste time on it. It wasn't an obvious mistake, apparently, so on they carried.

However it ends, the French have been excellent. They look the part.

Does not matter if it is an obvious error or not. The ref remains the final arbiter in rugby and so if he is happy with the decision and does not want it checked then he can do that

Like you, I'm no expert but I believe that the ball has to go backwards (or flat) in relation to the player making the pass. If, for instance, the passing player is running at speed, then a "backwards" pass could actually be going forward in relation to the ground due to it's forward momentum.

So, a forward pass.

I'm no great authority on rugby, but, from what I've heard and read, this game could go either way.
On that basis I'm predicting a very tight 1-1 draw.

Yup, I thought the Argentinian tackle was definitely worse.
I feel slightly sorry for Curry, with his incident being upgraded to a red.

Well, it’s up to the tackler to tackle safely, but Red is harsh. That said, I’ve never liked the wrap tackle… too many head collisions from it.
