Royal Ascot

Thanks for a great day,was my first forum game and loved it,wish i had stayed and played a few more holes after over an hour and a half on the M25 at 30 mph !!!!!thanks to James,Graham and Steve for a good game, the only down side is i had 11 points on the par fives and 10 points won the prize!!!!!!

Just got home after a 502 mile round trip, all be it i did say i was calling in on a mate who lived in Derby,on the way home, A post earlier on here said " Can't justify a round trip of 320 miles" think it was Twire. I can certainly justify my trip in 2 words, "GREAT COMPANY". Thanks to Martin (Homer) Redwood (Lee) and P1Pete (Graham) who played on the Tuesday afternoon as a taster. And Lee,thanks for sharing the Romantic evening meal that any couple would wish to have, :o :D Played on wed with Pieman (Paul)CVG (Colin) Region3 (Gary) Big thank you,to you boys, after the prize presentation, for supposedly 9 holes,Got collered with Smiffy (Rob) Pieman (Paul)and P1Pete (Graham) Tip off the day,If you are ever unfortunate to be drawn with Smiffy,Stay upwind,Rob,you need to get yourself checked out mate :Dthen after 9 holes,Graham and Rob disappeared into the clubhouse,Paul went off with the game in front, whilst Myself and Viscount17 waited on the 10th tee, James (JustoneUK) (I think) joined us and off we went, most enjoyable 9 holes,James asking Steve to measure some drives GPS says 280 yrds plus.... Good to watch,Once again ,thanks Homer for arranging this event,Thanks to GM for their contribution of prizes,But a big thank you to all you lads for attending, great effort.Regards to you all,Bill

Cant believe James hit a driver 280 yrds as he bottled it on the first laying up when it was only 218 yrds.Of course with a 280 yrd drive on the fairway he would have won the longest drive,279 being the longest.Words that spring to mind[after the horse has bolted].Dont take this personally James, golf is a totally different game with a card in hand.

I thinkto be fair to Twire he did come last year and so he was at least basing his comments on having played the course etc. It was a great day and I'm patiently waiting for my dinosaur of a PC to download some pics. Can those that took any please mail them over to Mike at the mag so he can put a gallery together and maybe use a few in the mag piece. His address is michael_harris@ipcmedia.com

I'll put some pics up in due course but thanks to everyone that attended and hope you all enjoyed it. For those that played last year I hope you could see how much the course, particularly the greens, have come on. Thanks to my partners on the day for their hospitality. Well done to TXL for his great back nine. I had a great laugh on Tuesday with CenturyG5 (are you not giving me that?) Redwood and P1Pete and hope I at least gave you some idea of where you were suppose to be going yesterday.

I had a great extra nine holes with Region3 who has a great swing, excellent putting touch and is an all round good egg, Justoneuk who was as much fun as ever to play with and Philthefragger who played great everywhere apart from in the bunkers (bit of work needed).

I hope everyone had a decent journey home and thanks for making the organisation before and on the day really easy. I can't wait to meet up with you all again and trying to prove that I can actually string two decent holes together

Pokerjoke,Talking of "bottling it" talk us through the 1st hole par 4, AFTER the prize giving,You tee'd off 1st i think, in your group, Over to you my mate....In your own words, this is purely for the forummers who were not there :D :D

Yes century no problem,
After picking up all my prizes for winning and having the most points on the par 3s i damaged my deltoid muscle due to the weight of prizes, having arrived on the first i was then blinded by viscounts trousers and because there was no card in my hand i dually duffed my 5 wood 30 yrds,of course i had a good laugh at my own expense because id already won.The funny side was viscount then teed off and did an air shot so i was 30 yards ahead of him.

Methinks that those who witnessed this formidable shot would swear that it gently trickled to the bottom of the slope, maybe 15 yards

The problem is that we cant really take the mickey out of you as you won

You cant argue with success

Well done Buddy

Laying up? Cheeky! LOL :D
It was a bit of a duffy 5-wood (20°) that popped up in the air (bit steep) and was lucky to have made it as far as it did, made a bogie.

Birdied the next with a MAHHHHOOOOOSIVE drive across the corner, 5pts after 2 holes - status quo.

My only totally bad hole of the day was the 18th on the first round, blobbed it because I took 4 to get down from the greenside bunker

Hope to catch up with you at a future forum meet.. congrats on your win. Grrrrrrrrrr...... :D

What a day! :)
The course was really nice, especially the greens. Not massively quick but very true and held balls well.
The only thing I wasn't so keen on was the ditches at driving distances in the fairways, but that's probably just because I'm not long enough to get over them. Had a go at the 7th in the second game and pitched it straight in :o
The food was quality as well. Well up for next year!

Thanks to Martin for a superbly organised day, and to GM for the extra prizes sent down. Shame they couldn't send anyone down to play, but probably best they didn't send a photographer as his life expectancy might have been lowered if he got any closer to the action than Tim on the first :D

Great company too with Pieman, CenturyG5 and CVG for the 'competition' round, then JustOneUK, Homer and Sir Fragger for the 'friendly' 9.
It was nice to bash the ball around instead of thinking about scoring points (which I decided not to do on 4 holes I think it was in the main round ). Probably just as well since I lost my way a bit the second time round the front 9, but still highly enjoyable.

Homer, since Bob mentioned the scorecards, are they still above ground? I can't see them being taken for h'caps, but it can't hurt to try.

There's something about the day that'll stick in my mind...

Was it Viscount17 holing from the middle of the 9th fairway for an eagle?...

No.

Was it a kung-fu-fighting dog and his snickering cat sidekick? :D
