Right knee flex- backswing

Straightening the right leg in the back swing is used in the Stack and Tilt type swing, it assists to keep your centre forward on the front foot in the backswing. The hips then need to be pushed well forward with the head back to shallow out the plane on the down swing.

If you dont S&T then a flexed right knee is a better position to hold IMO as it keeps you more level and centered and stops you coming down on a steep plane that will encourage getting out to in and hitting Fats and Thins.

Pretty much my take on it.

For S&T, moving the weight to the right is counter-productive. Braced right knee helps

For non S&T (weight shift), some weight needs to move to the right, via the hips turning rather than the shoulders simply moving though. A slightly flexed right knee helps.
 
I find when swinging on plane the right knee takes care of itself so I have absolutely no idea!

If my setup and swing-plane are poor then it doesn't matter much as I hit a poor shot.

Sorting out the basics first always fixes things for me and I let the mechanics take care of themselves.
 
I have no idea what mine does, but my pro hasn't commented on it since the first lesson so I guess whatever it does isn't a problem. I suspect it is now slightly bent but that is a guess and I'm not really that bothered as long as I keep hitting the ball well.
