ours is like that begsy, we go out in handicap order saturday then reverse scores sunday, nightmare for me as have to play too early for my liking on a saturday lol

I agree with JammieDodger - I've been to a few forum meets and the rounds have all taken quite a while to complete. Do I mind? Not at all! Golf is a leisurely pursuit, not a sprint.

You want to sprint - go take up athletics.

Club Championships will take longer as they are medal comps and the course is at it's hardest.

Having said that, a 5 hole gap is unnacceptable but you should have said something rather than just walk in.

Also, I'm not telling you how to live your life but you were playing in your club championship - surely that takes precedent over a pre-season friendly??? Unless you play football at a very high level in which case the CC has to give.

i asked for the club to give me a time which would see me finished so i could play football aswel as finish my round they said they had given me 1 even if it meant a slow round which wasnt correct so i walked in

depends whats more impoertant, club champs or a footy friendly. I always allow over runs for a round as one of my regular playing partners is quite slow (he is 65 y/o and just started playing) and as a 3 ball we are usually around the 4hr mark.

We always allow quicker groups to play through or for comps go in the last tee slot. I do hate being held up for long periods though as seems to unsettle my game even more so than it already is.

Slow play kills the momentum of golf, a 5 hole gap is just plain ridiculous, anyone loses 1 hole at ours and they wave thru next opportunity, starter noticed it slower than norm today at ours and sent out 3 marshals to move the groups along and ensure the 4 ball causing the delay sped up AND let others through, happiness all round.

Oh really ? I'd tell them where to shove their membership then. It's a golf club ffs , its not work or serious in any way. To threaten disciplinary measures because someone has had enough for one day and wants to go home is rather draconian and another instance of golf club committees being right up themselves.

Of course we'd all love to go round in a medal in 3.5 hours and there are a lot of forum members who bleat on about it. I can guarantee that an awful lot of you on here are slow players who have held the course up many times. 5 hour rounds at Blackmoor this year anyone ??? 4.5 at Beau ?? Hypocrits

You miss the point. What the committee is trying to do is protect the interests of other players. How would you feel if one, two, or even three of your fourball decided they didn't want to carry on and you were having a really good round?
Only one of our members has even come close to the ultimate sanction. He had a history of walking off when things were not going his way (he once walked off on the first hole when he couldn't find his ball from his tee shot - no provisional played). It got to the stage where nobody wanted to play in his group. A private chat with the Secretary and his attitude changed - but not completely.
I don't know about your club but our committee listens to members and does reflect the opinions of the vast majority of the members. If your committee doesn't, then it's up to the complainers to get off their backsides and do something about it.
"It's not serious in any way" - it is serious for the guy whose once-a-week chance to enjoy doing what he's paid lots of money for, has that ruined by some "couldn't care less about anyone else" knob.
