Random Irritations

Performance goal setting, today is the deadline. Every year I have to do this rubbish and every year I have no idea what to put. Apparently having the goal of doing all your work to the best of your ability, leaving on time and getting paid, is not acceptable. Let's see what ChatGPT thinks I should put...

So glad I don’t have to do that any more.

We had a thing about targets being "SMART". Simple manageable achievable realistic time-bound.

At a staff meeting one time, I was asked directly by a manager whether I knew what a SMART target was. I said, "Yes".
When I was pushed for the full meaning of SMART, I responded, "Some more absolutely ridiculous tosh." (there followed some laughter around the room)

When you have less than 3 years to retirement, no desire to climb any ladder and more experience than those above you, work can become great fun sometimes.

You're not alone we have to do that for ourselves and monitor all our Juniors aspirations, objectives and goals! We also have to add in what extras we will do outside of our work to forward ourselves and the careers of subordinates!

The last few years I've got ChatGPT to suggest ways of how to write my objective of doing the bare minimal and spending more time away from work seem like a productive goal, and to suggest ways to state I won't do anything more than my job because if I'm not paid for it what am I getting from it😂

Best comment I heard recently from someone who was doing his write up for his mid term assessment- he said his progress report was "Goals on target to be met" and he added that his end of term was going to be "All goals met". This was driven by the fact that most people would be assessed as 2 (out of 3) and therefore no point in going over and above :ROFLMAO:

Our goals have to be SMART - apart from the mandatory one from the management which is not specific and cannot be measured.

@Lucifer MorningStar do the RAF still have the mandatory one about D&I (or whatever they call it) which also cannot be measured?

Yup. That has to written out as your 1st of 8 objectives and has a compulsory wording so you cannot jazz it up or remotely make it seem like something you've chosen and want to do, so kind nullifies the the whole point of someone having 8 objectives individual to them that they want to achieve!. Though it's not called D&I anymore as apparently using the term Diversity and inclusion isn't inclusive enough 😂 , so now its be renamed to "Everybody Everyday! which nobody knows what that really means so it still gets called D&I, you literally couldn't make it up! It's also completely immeasurable and can never be completed!

I used to get really cheesed off with acronyms.

I came up with one for a company I once worked for who seemed rather obsessed with acronyms.
I will leave out the company's name for my own good reasons.

Acronym reveals (______) exploit horrifyingly overworked low-paid employees.

On one of my assessments the manager used a word that I had never heard of before (despite good education) and he had to explain to me what it meant. That's OK I thought because I reckoned the there was a high probability that the next manager up the line would not know what it meant either.

What has happened to my Air Force? I despair. ☹️😕🤷🏼‍♂️. I’ve only just left ( well in 2004 but sometimes it seems like yesterday).
