Random Irritations

Weird and extremely unusual things happen in tiny, fractional areas in every country - thre are odd unacceptable people across the world (many of whom are powerful in national institutions).
I don’t know anyone who has heard of anyone they know having such things happen to them. To have this sort of occurrence bandied around as if it is any realistic issue in almost everyone’s daily life is pure scaremongering of the worst kind designed to exacerbate division and hatred. It needs calling out every time it raises its ugly head.
Where is this alleged to be happening?

I don’t agree with the tone of CF’s original post, nor do I want to prolong what will only be a divisive discussion. If anyone wants to do a search for material, there’s plenty out there. From what I can remember, Al Jazeera TV did a very good, balanced piece about it interviewing a decent cross section of stakeholders.

I get your reasoning. But surely working on your own brings mental health questions.
Very much a case of working the way that suits for you. In the past working was rigid, one size fits all. Now you, sometimes, have a choice.

My son goes into his office 4 days a week, works from home 1 day. Some of the older staff flip that the other way. Hybrid working 🤷🏻

Why would it be any different to working from your own office?
Also I would say the stress of public transport/travelling to and from the office is now reduced.
The office is there if anyone wants to come in.
Also people can wear what they like at home and for some of them it is saving 20 hours a week travel time they have now got back.

Just heard that a neighbour on our street passed away from cancer on Friday. He's been battling it for a couple of years and chatting to him a couple of weeks ago, he wasn't even expected to make Christmas 2024. He played as much golf as he could last year and leaves behind a wife and two teenage daughters. He was only in his late forties.
In case anyone would like to see, this is his Instagram profile he set up.
Twilight Golfing

Everyone's different, but for me dragging myself into the office every day was far worse for my mental health than being able to work in the comfort of my own home.
I think some people think letting staff work from home reduces productivity and allows people to be lazy when in truth it’s the opposite.
For someone like yourself it allows you to be at home when your daughter leaves and comes home from school and if you take 10 minutes to say hello/goodbye I bet you actually make sure it doesn’t affect your work and how much you do in a day

Hmmmm. Depends on the individual. I know when we were working from home during COVID one of our teams had a fatal collision come in during their tour of duty and the sergeant could not get hold of one of his DC’s. Turned out she had arranged to have some fence panels delivered when she was supposed to be working.

I have no problem if people do this sort of thing as long as it’s not continuous and they let the team know.

It obviously depends on what the business is etc.

If someone was to take advantage then they would be told they need to work from the office going forward

Totally agree, but sadly she hadn’t said anything. Her team had to tip out from their home addresses to that collision minus one investigator because she was “otherwise engaged”.

The 💩 hit the fan and then some.

Yea, not travelling is a huge plus. I'm the same as you said in your earlier post - if I was behind on finishing some work, working from home I'll work til 6:30 to get it done. In the office, no chance, I'm out the door at 5 to get my train.

I worked from home for close on 20 years. There’s pluses & minuses to it for everyone. My day pretty much saw me at my desk for 7am getting stuff done before the calls started. It would go quiet around 9:30, when I’d shower. Lunch was usually taken at my desk, unless it was Open week ;) My day usually went well into the evening.

My last 2 years saw me in a different roll, working in an office from 8:30 till 5, though I was usually last out around 6. I found there were too many distractions in the office, and too many interruptions.

Minor irritant but a major slog. Just been advised the transport between camp and air terminal for flights home tomorrow has broken!

Bag check in at the terminal tomorrow is 0815(flight is as 1530), so we now have carry them there ourselves by foot, the annoying part is we’re all travelling with approx 60kgs of kit and it’s a 1 mile walk to get there and it has to be done in one trip!

That’s just mad. Jeez, surely there’s more than one truck in the world. Someone is either thick or too lazy to find an alternative solution.

Just pretend it’s a golf bag mate and you’re on your way to play your favourite course.

It sounds to me like one bad apple.
How did it work out for everyone else?

P.S I hope she got her just rewards, some people are just selfish mate

Due to where we are there are only 2 trucks, the rest are tracked vehicles that don’t have flat bed capability. Both trucks are currently unserviceable! Welcome to the UK military equipment 🤣

To be fair the weight isn’t the issue, it’s more trying to carry it without breaking an ankle on the ice 🤣

I would like to comeback and play golf at Lofoten links though if I can in the summer.

Once you get to the terminal with all your kit, please feel free to post it in the fitness thread as your workout for the day.😇
