Random Irritations

Tooting along today on a road I don't go down a lot. See a police speed camera van parked up. No problem I thought I'm only doing about 24-26mph. Suddenly saw a speed sign attached to a lamppost, 20mph!! I'll await the letter in the post.!
20mph speed limits are a complete joke. The local council consulted on the streets where I live changing to 20 from 30. The majority were against it, but they implemented it anyway.

London is predominately 20mph now. It seems to have contributed heavily to the DPF going in my VW T6 van as the engine runs at so low a revs at that speed, you need to drive constantly for hours to even get up to anything close to hot at 20mph.
Just an expense I need just before it's gone.

I only really go into Bromley up the A20 and then left from Sidcup. Thankfully there aren't any 20 zones there. I did go to Hackney a few months ago for a party and drove. Leaving at 2am, every road seemed to be 20, and with all the traffic lights, it was painful.

A few nights back, dark and raining, I'm doing a bare 20 on the downhill road to my home (20 zone). Suddenly I'm overtaken on both sides by two lads on scooters bombing along. Both were dressed completely in black, hoods up, on black scooters with no lights.
I'm betting they also had black face coverings.
Death on wheels.

I didn't know it had changed. There's a 20mph near where I live and once I thought I'd stick to it. I was overtaken by a taxi, a police car and a bloke who gestured to me the fact I indulged in self pleasure 🤣

It's genuinely really difficult to drive at 20mph, it feels like you've almost stopped. I end up looking at the speedometer more often than normal so my full attention isn't on the road. I'm sure that wasn't the intention of lowering the limit.

My wife told me she wants a 'walk pad'. What the heck is that, I ask. It's like a treadmill but just for walking apparently. Are you having a laugh? An £80-100 device to enable you to go for a walk?? Last I checked, walking is free! You can absolutely whistle for that, love, because I won't be buying one. Nor will I allow one in the house! Unbelievable. Just go for a walk!

These have become popular for people who maybe can’t just go out for a walk, or walking while working from home, or getting home late and don’t go out walking on their own in the dark or local area.

I wouldn’t dismiss it straight away, have a look in to them.

She won't even walk to the kitchen or up the stairs, she makes me do it for her!

Remember back in the 70's there was a family quiz show called Ask The Family?

One of the typical questions involved identifying an object in an image....initially you were zoomed in close, so the object was unrecognizable, and had to identify what it was as the "camera" zoomed out.

I think Parcel Force have adopted a similar strategy for their "proof of delivery" pictures. I mean...i havent got a scooby doo what this image is supposed to be of. There might be a smidgin of a corner of a very fast moving cardboard box there :ROFLMAO: ...but what the background is I couldn't remotely begin to guess at...

That told her!!
😂

Just read the stats. They're widely available on-line.
Less people are killed and seriously injured at 20mph than 30. Personally, I think it's a fair compromise.
Even fewer people would be killed or injured if people drove at 10mph. Why stop at 20?

In reailty, drivers continue to go faster than 20 in 20 zones because they think it's inappropriately slow for the type of road. In most scenarios I would agree. I have no issue with a 20 limit near schools for example, but on A roads in London, it's absolutely absurd.
