Random Irritations

Surely you can just work out if you did it or not ? I.e when did you last fill up Vs card receipts. I've driven off without paying once and realised the next day . It's surprisingly easy to do.
Really?
No evidence on my card history so either
1 I didnt purchase fuel
Or
2 I did and drove off.
I've made it clear rhat if it was 2 I'll pay at once provided they give me evidence.
Two requests ignored and their tone is now belligerent and threatening.
These are "legal professionals", with a 1* Trustpilot rating, acting very dubiously.

I'm sure petrol stations all have security cams for exactly this sort of thing so it should be easy enough for them to provide a photo, provided it actually happened and their cameras were working at the time.

I believe that even for speeding offences and so on you're entitled to ask for the evidence aren't you? So definitely stick to your guns on this one.

There's a website here where you can get free advice, in case you need any support:

🤷 I'm not sure following up on a bilking claim is acting dubiously, I also don't think they have to provide photographic evidence to you. I agree I'd like a degree of proof though too, if you have the date and time then I'd think you could at least establish your whereabouts and take it from there. We all leave quite a digital trail these days.

Do they not have to provide (photographic) evidence that the theft took place?

I parked in a hotel car park for work a couple of years ago and forgot to log my registration number at the desk.

I got a similar threatening letter, pay now or it doubles, we’ll wreck your credit rating etc.

This had a photo of my car entering the car park.

A polite phone call to the hotel reception got the fine dropped, but it was all a stressful hassle.

If it's legit then they would have no problem sending pics or providing some other form of proof.
The fact that they've ignored 2 requests and are now getting "heavy" show that they haven't got any.
If they have no proof how can they legitimately chase payment.?
If they have proof why haven't they provided it...?

They got his address to send to so must have his reg plate. As it's potentially a criminal offence then I'd assume the next step would be for them to inform the police and let them deal with it. Given the police are overstretched who knows if they will or not. It's a standard tactic of debt collectors to send scary sounding letters in hope people just pay up.

Agree, but could this be a case of cloned plate?. If the evidence is that car ABC 123 drove away without paying ( no proof of driver identity),;that presents a difficult situation. Each “side” convinced they’re right.
I’d really try to remember ( not very easy!), and establish your whereabouts, I.e. elsewhere.

Chances of cloned plated used locally are low, but not zero.

But. The garage used something to show them that this reg plated car drove away. (Allegedly!) Why wouldn't they send that proof with the demand letter? That's what I'd be doing if asking for payment.

Quite right to query it. You've already said you'd pay on receipt of the proof.

They take that to court with providing it, you send in a counter claim with that letter. It gets kicked out as they haven't complied with a reasonable request for information.

The standard of motorway driving is abysmal, and I still think a separate test is required. Too many people joining at slow speed, they often move straight to the middle lane when the inside lane is empty. Far, far too many people who do not know what lane to be in, empty inside lanes on three lane stretches, and empty first & second lanes on four lane stretches. Add in those who drive far too close and those who think indicating means they can just pull out, and I reckon the police need to extend the AI cameras so they can start picking up some of these issues and issue fines and points as required, as another irritation is the lack of police I see on the morotrways.

Sadly, motorway policing became an unaffordable luxury a decade ago.

Aside from the odd unmarked car, the only police vehicles I see on them these days are travelling from A to B. The drivers are very unlikely to have been trained to work on the motorway so can’t deal with bad drivers even if they wanted to.

It's ridiculous how organised we are around eldest twins inability to sleep through the night

She's up already.

So my hoddle full of tomorrow clothes is in the spare room ready, phone in charge in the charger I hide behind her bed and I'm in with her twin because their room has air con but the spare room doesn't lol

One day she will sleep through again.

Not claiming to be parent of the year or anything, but are you sure you haven't just made it too nice and cushy for her to jump in the big bed, so she's just getting up because she wants that? Ours is only two of course, but if she won't sleep one of us will just lie on her floor next to her until she drops off - we refuse to let her sleep in our bed since as soon as we do she'll want it every time.

As debt collectors, The DVLA will provide them with an address based on their claim of "reasonable cause" that a debt has been incurred.
I would assume they have to demonstrate that reasonable cause or they could simply operate a profitable racket by acquiring addresses without cause. The first piece of advice offered to people in my position is to politely issue a "Prove it" request.
I've not refuted their claim but three times they've ignored my request.
They are simply expecting me to fold throught the use of provocative terminology.

Ah devil child is awful when it comes to it. We tried everything for month. Eventually she just slept through but randomly started again Christmas eve

If you try anything she will just wake the entire house which is just not what you need

Why do people think traffic lights are optional if they're only temporary lights? Every time I come to a set of temp lights, I always seem to be at the front of the queue, because the previous 4 cars have all just run the red light. One of these days I would love to see someone have to reverse all the way back when they get caught out doing this!
