Random Irritations

I thought it worked if you queued the first then the second once the first was playing.

It may have changed, but I don’t listen to a lot of albums so wouldn’t have noticed if it did.
That was another thing that annoyed me - after queueing the albums and pressing play for the first track, it then played track 1 again when it went to the queue. So stupid.

It’s very subjective, but I would say in a motorway tailback where traffic is stop start and moving at moderate speed it’s probably acceptable.

Once you’re in free flowing traffic and reaching higher speeds it’s not. I think what the post I quoted was alluding to was that if there is a vehicle to your offside travelling at, say, 60mph then it’s acceptable to pass to its nearside merely because it’s moving more slowly than you are.

That falls within the realms of careless driving, and when I worked on the motorways I vividly recall a CPS prosecutor telling me he would prosecute anyone performing a high speed “undertake” for dangerous driving.

Saw something today that reminded me of this discussion.
Driving down the M1 near Sheffield this morning, pretty empty motorway but there’s a car and a van in the 3rd lane forcing drivers out to the 4th lane to overtake. There’s a police car maybe 50 yards ahead doing nothing, just tootling along. A Range Rover behind me has had enough and undertakes both the cars in lane 3, the second vehicle was undertaken while he was just about next to the police car. I was expecting blue lights but the police car did nothing 🤔

Whilst I’m tempted to say that’s not good enough, there is the possibility that the officers in it were not suitably trained to stop cars on a motorway.

Whilst that may sound ludicrous, the motorway is a very dangerous working environment. Conducting a stop/check on such a road is not like doing it anywhere else, hence the requirement for some proper training.

I would go as far as to say what you saw is actually unlikely to have been a traffic crew, primarily because most forces no longer routinely patrol their motorways. I’m sure South Yorkshire don’t. It’s more likely to have been a normal patrol car using the M1 as part of its journey, or maybe even a transport unit driver (mechanic) moving the car from A to B. That’s actually quite common on the motorway.

So all may not be as it seems!

Boxing, a sad relic of a once proud sport. You name it, it's happening.

Next week, Tyson Fury versus Alan Carr, just because someone might pay to see it.
Actually, not necessarily Alan Carr (as he doesn't annoy me) but I might pay to watch a new TV series where celebs that you hate/annoy the hell out of you have to go 3 rounds with Tyson Fury - it would be the longest running series ever!
Series one already includes Chris Evans, Katie Price & Vanessa Felz ;)

It was one of those 4x4 type police cars, pretty sure it said Traffic Officer on the side 🤔

Playing my best tennis ever (so far anyhow) when my 6' partner decides the smash I'm about to take is actually his and takes me out mid-air. I seem to have used my face to break my fall. Blood everywhere and look like I've been beaten up - lip split, cheek grazed and bruised and black eye forming. Oh and don't get me started on how sore my teeth are (thankfully still rooted!) or my wrist, elbow, hip and shoulder.

I am not a happy bunny...

Can you please add Rylan and Sam Smith to your list, and let me have a front ringside seat.

Ouch, that sounds very painful.

Ouch, I hope he apologised and feels very guilty about that.

Wow really, I didn’t know that 😮

They’re not cops - they’re civilian Highways Agency staff whose primary role is to keep the motorways flowing.

They were introduced about 15 years ago, and at the time there was huge concern that they would replace police motorway patrols. They have, but with none of the traditional police powers apart from being allowed to shut roads.

He did feel really bad and think I was too forgiving as one of our opponents looked after me until I felt ok to drive home and was very scathing of his actions. He gets very excitable and wants to smash everything but how the hell he didn't register his partner at the net was taking the shot I don't know.

Feel rough as this morning and look worse!!
