Random Irritations

Top-of-the-range 5* hotel, you just don't expect something like that. Very lucky our little girl didn't get anything too, otherwise we'd have been besides ourselves. Wife is back home now, with a bag full of antibiotics.
It might be labelled as 5* but that is possibly Turkey 5* which won't correlate to a top London hotel for example. Also, throw in the fact that I expect it was buffet food that has been left out in the trays for a long period of time, full of holiday makers coming straight from the pool, etc without washing hands properly and these places are ripe with bugs. When we go all inclusive we always pre-prepare our guts with some of the friendly bacteria stuff (tablets or yoghurts mainly) to build up our defences and have never been ill since we started doing this. Previously one of us would be ill for a few days each time.

It was genuinely a lovely hotel, but you're right, things can always happen if you're unlucky I guess. I already disliked holidays so this is just another reason to put on the list. 😧

Changed from sky tv to EE a day after we upgraded to faster EE Wi-Fi. EE changed the Wi-Fi to BT. We also cancelled the house phone line as we never used it. I have me mums house phone account on an email account as she is 86 and don’t have an email address. BT advised me to do that years ago. Anyway last Thursday I get an email saying they are cutting off my mums phone line. 😳
So after 45 minutes on the phone BT assured me it was a mistake and would not happen. Monday me mother called and said BT have cut her phone line. So after another 45 mins on the phone to BT. They assured me the line was ok and had never been cut off. The very patient guy said there is a problem with the phone.
So off I went to me mothers. After a minute looking through the phone directory. It transpires that she has somehow managed to block every call. So when I have called her in the past and the phone goes beep beep beep beep. She is pressing lord knows how many buttons and locked and blocked the phone 😖
So yesterday she called me to say the phone is working ok 👍 she proceeded to tell me that her we is infected and is dark in colour.
I told her to shut up and I will call her back in a couple of hours as the two lads in the car that were with me whilst we took the poppy pots out were crying with laughter. 😖

Seen a lot of social media posts complaining about the potential digital ID card

Is it amusing that people are complaining about their privacy being abused and having people being able to control them digitally etc whilst also posting on the internet and having on line banking , using on line shopping , booking apportionments on line etc etc

What’s so scarey about having an ID card that’s digital

Had a phone call from them saying the test results showed salmonella, so now she has to go back in for a few days to go on a drip for different drugs than they originally sent her home with. Quite annoying. Not sure why it took them so long to check that.
Presume you’ll report this to the hotel so they can investigate - not a compo thing but Salmonella can be lethal so they need to quickly address their food control systems.

I'm very much not bothered by the idea of digital ID, the tax man already knows who pays me, DVLA have you driving details, government have passport info, I bank online with a company that has never had any physical branches, 905 of my shopping is done online the list goes on....

I think the people that find it scary or are so opposed to it are digging their heels in stating they already have all the above why does the government need more out of them etc, a political stand point that borders conspiracy theorists, are of an age where they don't understand it simply haven't really looked into what information is required and whats being held on them.

Lad i've known for years is can't stop talking about how it's a step closer to full governance of our lives and controlling the masses! Doesn't mention a word of it in person but posts it all over socials and open forums! But yeah he doesn't like sharing anything online or digitally :ROFLMAO:

Might be an idea to get her one of those simple telephones with the big buttons, which are designed for the elderly?

I think we will contact them or go through some sort of channel for this - definitely to try and get some money back too (not likely but no harm in trying) - but we'll need to wait for new discharge papers now so that salmonella is stated on there as the diagnosis.

That’s sums it up really

Big brother has been watching for decades

I did see one video that claims it’s going to be used to limit us on what we eat and control our money 😂

I don't really understand the concept of hospital parking. When you go into hospital you have no clue how long you're going to be there - you hope to be seen quickly and be in and out in an hour, but usually fat chance of that. Best case three hours.. worst case.. eight? Ten? So how the hell am I supposed to input how many hours I need my car parked for when I arrive?? Why can't we just pay when we leave then we know how long we've been there! The current system - have a random stab at it and then repeatedly add more hours as required. 🤦🏻

That used to be the case at the local hospital but it was changed when they built a new car park.

I don't know where everyone else shops but I regulary use self serve at Morrisons and Lidl, our two local supermarkets, and neither ever have an issue with recognising a bag. I know you are not alone in this, plenty of others seem to have the problem, but I just never see it.

I have a Tesco cold bag (insulated lining) every time I use it in Tesco it has to be 'approved' by one of the assistants in the self checkout section.

Lycamobile.
After years with Giffgaff (MVNO on O2) I switched last week because I could never get a signal at a location where I spend a day every week. Staff there told me EE works perfectly so Lycamobile (MVNO on EE) was a no-brainer.
After 4 days with a full signal but unable to make or receive calls I've ended the experiment and gone back to Giffgaff.
My experience of Lycamobile network, app and customer service in the last 4 days has been utter 🐕💩. It's cheap though.

But I can recommend going down the eSIM route next time you change network provider. What a pop that is.

I use 1pmobile on the EE network. One big advantage I found with EE (probably others as well) is the ability to make calls and send texts over WiFi (important to me as I live in a poor signal location inside my house for some networks, Three probably being the worst).

Maybe relevant to some EE is the only network with a 5G signal where I live.

Honest it’s purgatory with them and phones. The old phone was rammel she said. So after googling the net. I showed her the very phones you mention. The answer. “ there for old folk”. 😖 dads 89 mums 86. I told her you could put pictures on. Not interested. For bought a phone that increases 30% volume at the touch of a button. It’s identical to the last one but has an answer phone on it. ( that she don’t know how to use). 😖
Plus me mum likes me dad to get up and answers the phone then pass it to her. 😳 she cannot do it with the one you have the link to. Probably the funny bit about when I ring them is when I have said cheerio and she never presses the button to finish the call. The times we have sat and listened to them talking rubbish for an age after the call has finished 😂

Been away for a few days to Brighton.
The Mrs says yesterday she wants to go to Primark to get Mickey Mouse wrapping paper. So off she goes and I go for a couple of beers.

We meet up an hour later and she only has a suitcase.

She says I bought £20 of wrapping paper but didn’t want it to get wet so bought a suitcase as well.

How much was the suitcase I reply?

£65.00 is the response as though it’s normal!!

I didn’t have the heart to say anything else 😂

If you have the NHS APP registered onto your phone, the test results will end up on there any some point. You would be amazed at what medical information you will come across 👍

What’s so scarey about having an ID card that’s digital

As a foreigner living in Spain I have a foreigner’s ID card. The Spanish carry their version of an ID card. If we spend over a certain amount we have to show our ID card. If we stay in a hotel we have to show our ID card. I’ve had it over 6 years now. Never been stopped by the police, and there are a lot more police over here.

It doesn’t stop me doing anything I would have done in the U.K.

As for it will stop individuals working in the U.K… I’ve employed British nationals and immigrants. The hoops I had to jump through when taking on foreign nationals were huge. Saying that it’s needed to stop those who shouldn’t work… the controls are already in place. It’s unscrupulous employers that look for cheap labour that is the issue.
