Random Irritations

Looking at the reviews, someone has 3010s in them and the look ok.

A custom set of speaker stands would be cool 😁.
Ideally you want surrounds not much over ear height. Even angled they sound naff, as I tried to tell the in-laws but they insisted that the surrounds be up high.

We have ours angled in and at 1100mm from floor. Really wraps the sound around you.

Thanks mate, all the articles I’ve read suggest rears (mine would be a 5.1 set up) to be anything from 1ft to 3ft about ear level 😮
What about front L and R heights lol, again a lot of articles say have the tweeters level with the centre speaker but other say middle of the tv 🤦🏻
It’s the last step to finishing my room but by far the hardest 🤣

I suppose it's like everything and there will be a million contrasting views. I think high surrounds can work if it's loud all the time. The issue that the inlaws have is that unless it's booming loud then the surrounds are so quiet as to not be there.

Height of the front channels is an interesting one. Think how tall a floor standing speaker tends to be (1000 to 1200mm normally) which, unless your TV is really high up, which is shouldn't be, then the tweeters are going to be mid-screen level. The centre channel goes underneath. If you use the Audessey set-up mic that came with the Denon amp then it will set level adjusts for the each channel so that they play nicely wherever they are positioned.

We have KEF T301 all round, front channels are installed mid TV screen, centre is underneath exactly, well, centre. Rears are 1m wider each side of the fronts but angled in at 30 degrees at head height. Regardless of the volume I can hear all of the surround feeds perfectly.

But again, there are so many opinions on it, and in some cases I think people try to be contrarian for the sake of it and the average human ear can't actually pick out some of the minor differences.

It’s an interesting discussion arguing over 300mm 🤭
I do have my tv slightly higher than it currently is as I had to mount it above a radiator, I’ve fitted a floating shelf above the radiator and all three front speakers are to be placed on that. Yes it’s a very big shelf 🤣

Parents who claim not to be able to afford their kids football club yearly fees. But can afford to be in the pub every Friday and Saturday night and smoke. Or are dressed head to toe in designer clothing.
the Govt should do something about it..

I think that the TV being much higher than the speakers might sound a bit odd, one of the things that makes our set-up work so well is that it actually sounds like its coming from the TV. But again, the Audessey set-up should be able to alter the offset timings to make it sound ok.

Lucky its not the 3020s on a floating shelf, they get a bit heavier than the 3010s by some amount and three of them on one floating shelf would be interesting.

All this talk about setting speakers up to a precise height makes me wonder if the posters have to sit bolt upright in the same position all the time? No lying down or slouching in case the sound is distorted 🤣

But you assume I had the time to shop at various shops?

Machine needs to be working. Mrs wanted that make, ao could get it today by 12 which mother in law could stay at ours for.

So ao wins

If it was the dishwasher which I can wash up for couple days whilst I shop about or spend time googling

I came down at 0645 by 0700 I had it ordered.

If I could wait another day is go Currys as I get 7% discount

As I said. Needs must
I don't class Currys as local. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

I don’t think speaker placement will be an issue, the centre will be directly below the tv like it is at the moment, we’ll also be sat further away so hopefully this will compensate for the tv being slightly higher. I’ve also fitted a tilting tv mount that will hopefully help 🤞🏻
Yeah I did my homework on the speakers, I almost went for the 3020i’s until I saw the size 😮

It’s not my speaker placement that for me is the (main) problem, it’s getting the aux-din (converter) connection from the turntable to the amp the right way round; then getting the amp-speaker cable for each speaker the right way round. I can prob sort out turntable-amp, but think I need new speaker cable.🤔

Knowing Currys it would have been out of stock anyway!!

Ironically they had it on 2 days delivery.. but we needed next day

The point as always was missed.. I could have gone local. But If I had time I would have chosen Currys due to my 7% discount vouchers I can get from them as it saves £35 roughly

Unfortunately price is king .. way of the world

Being unable to survive for just one day without a washing machine has to be the ultimate first world problem.

Indeed it is, however my primary role in the house is to make my wife's work load as little as I can.

She doesn't like washing building up it makes her feel Like she can't relax.

So if I can fix anything or replace anything to make her life easier then of course I will.

The age old govt technic of leaking a news story to see how people react before officially announcing it. Yes Prime Minster had a few episodes on it. Now being used to test the likelihood of the petrol ban delays
