When running a competition or sweep
How many entries is the minimum required to make this event a handicap qualifier??

A rule number for reference would be great too

Thanks in advance

I don't think CONGU specify a minimum number although they do specify how to calculate CSS for fields of 5 or less.

No idea if there is a rule but we decided at our last club meeting that for a competition to count the minimum field must be 9. We made up that figure though so perhaps it is down to each club to set their own figure.

The question was raised because numbers for the pro's competitions on a Saturday are down and we are touching that number on bad weather days.

We have a byelaw saying there needs to be 8 to make a competition, but that is just our own section. There is no limit for it to be a qualifier, in the CONGU manual there is a table for calculating CSS for small fields (10 or less)

That would be against the spirit of the UHS.
"... having allowed a competition to commence, a Committee does not have the right to
subsequently declare a Qualifying Competition ‘null and void’ or ‘cancelled’ for handicap purposes
because a pre-determined number of entries has not been met. Irrespective of the number of
competitors (or entries) a CSS must be calculated and handicaps adjusted as appropriate. The
Committee would, however, be within its rights to withhold prizes should a pre-determined minimum
entry not be reached."

We often have just 2 or 3. Particularly Saturday comps for the ladies which are played at the same time as the mens.

In the event of such small fields as described above
Does the club scoring software automatically detect this and apply the small field formulas?
Or
Does this need to be applied manually?

Club currently uses brs booking and howdidido , if that makes any difference

1) Yes
2) No
3) It makes no difference. All ISVs (ClubV1, HandicapMaster etc) use the same processes.

BRS is only a booking system. HDID simply reports information from clubs using Club2000 or ClubV1 (same company).
