Probubly the best equipment story.....Ever?!

Of course they don't (most copy others innovations!), and they must be a good commercial product to be a leading brand. But to me its like saying - 'The best technological improvement that we have come up in recent years is painting our woods white. We have hit the ceiling regards improvements that stick within the rules and are therefore looking outside them'.

Things like high COR could make a return - which actually made no difference IMO. Also, resale value of such kit will be minimal I guess.

So fellow forumers, in your opinion, what form will the changes make (higher cc is a given but why stop there?)?

I think all they are doing is trying to increase their customer base. They know that participation numbers are down for a multitude of reasons. They also know there is a big market out there of happy hackers like my good self who do not play in comps or are members of a club, but just play for the sheer enjoyment. And for us lot if I can get a club that makes the game a bit easier then great. It will still be a golf club with a head on one end and a handle at the other and it won't make that much difference if you are not that good anyway. But at my level a lot of enjoyment just comes from hitting a shot relatively straight in the air and a fair distance, it's not if I drop my handicap by 0.1 or if I score 42 points. And that's the market they are after.

And with a bit of clever marketing, which like them or not, TM excel at, I suspect they may well find a new bunch of customers to aim at. And if that means that more people participate then it's a win win for everyone. Well apart from some people who I get the distinct opinion that they think that having the wrong types more people in the game will mean they won't have the course to themselves.

I'd like to think the ruling bodies have a lot of innovative ideas to increase participation and remove the elitest image the game has. But in evidence I present the closing ceremonies of every Open every year. Take a long hard look at the people involved and ask yourself if they are up to it in the 21st century? Which is why commercial organisations are stepping in and doing it themselves now.

last thing we need is people who cant hit a driver knocking it 320yards sideways. that's just dangerous! :swing:

fore-waaaay-right !!

I doubt they'll go very much further.
Straighter, Yes...

And if TM think that Joe Average won't hook, slice and top these then they really are stupid...

exactly, golf or should I say whacking madly with increasingly large volumes of titanium is becoming sterile for the 'average' participant - take a look at any range where fittings are done people forever lashing drivers searching for some sort of excalibur that once in a while might actually send a ball 250 (REAL) yds straight but who lack any sort of consistency or grasp of fundamentals that lies at heart of golf. If 90% of these people even invested one range sessions worth of time into exploring how a decent grip could improve their 'game' and indeed their driving, companies like TM might well be screwed or at least lessen their hyperbole.

No they are not, they are very clever as all they have to do is persuade the punters that they wont hook, slice or top as much. Which I expect they will if past form is anything to go by.

But why does golf have to be a game where you pay your dues, you have to have lots of lessons and get all the fundamentals in place, or put another way it has to be as hard as possible to do well relatively quickly without spending a considerable amount of time, effort and money? Which in the modern age people increasingly do not have.

If a company can make equipment that negates the need for a lot/some of that then it's the holy grail. As all the punter that has bought one and not gone through years and years of lessons/money/time and frustrations will say is 'look where the ball ends up'.

Will this ever happen, chuff knows. But don't knock them for trying.

Illegal equipment already exists. It will not do anything to damage the game and most people taking the sport seriously simply avoid it.

Here is a what's in the bag for all those that just want to have fun and forget about the competition. Even includes a Scotty Cameron putter (although not deliberate)! Doesn't need irons because every hole becomes a driver, wedge. No need to wait for TM.

Or you could make it really easy, costs less than a membership, you can get new clubs whenever you want and it's not good weather dependant!

Nah that game is conforming.

This is the game for non-conforming golf. Have handed in my 3 cards at Los Santos GC I have a -4 handicap. $100 for a day pass at a 9 hole goat track is a little bit excessive though ;)

Any of you tried any of the non confirming Dunlop equipment?

I'm pretty sure there isn't a driver that exists that can compensate for an inconsistent and poor grip - it costs nothing and doesn't take too long to get it approximately right - absolutely nothing about paying dues. In fact people buying these clubs, are, in all probability, those who the marketing puff is aimed at, beguiling them into thinking a 300, 330, 400, 460 cm^3 driver will be their saviour maybe once a round when they luck out a straight one, or hit a slice that stays in play on the hole they are on.

I'm not sure I get it.

Picking up the ball and throwing it out onto the fairway isn't in the rules.

Playing with an illegal club seems equally as daft.

If two of you are playing to your own set of rules and you are having a good time then I guess that's fair enough. You could leather wedge it on every hole if you're both happy with that, and do gimmies within 4ft.... it's whatever floats your boat. Why even use clubs? just fire the thing down there with a grenade launcher if that's YOUR WAY of playing the game

I prefer a rocket launcher as it has a sight on it.

If TM want to bring out non-conforming clubs then that's up to them and they seem to be aiming them at the players who don't play in comps or team matches. In some ways all they are trying to do is open their products up to all golfers.

Personally I think 460CC is quiet big enough, it already looks like the you've got the star ship enterprise on the end of a stick.
