Pro-v balls,is there any point using them?

I have been using the TM Burner TP which is a solid feeling 3 piece and so I am getting the best of most worlds. They are cheap too http://www.best4balls.com/taylormade-burner-golf-balls-p-1309.html Its giving me decent distance, stops well and isn't too firm off the putter or wedges. It isn't the same as a Pro V or any of the premium balls but at the moment there seems very little point using those when everything sticks on the green anyway. Come the firmer conditions in Spring and Summer and the dynamic of the Pro V comes into its own with the way it'll bite on the hard greens.

have to agree with murph I find quite a few on my trips into the jungle areas. Tried them a few times and have to say i'm not good enough to do them justice so normally give them to the guys i play with. Might be in the mind but can't hit them for toffee

It doesn't really matter what ball you use as long as you are used to it and know how it reacts off the clubface (putter included) and when it lands.

cheaper balls in winter better balls in proper golf season for me
DITTO, use my shabbier Z-stars and anything reasonable I've found in winter (apart from in comps) and prefer the softer feel of Z stars generally (even though I don't have a fast swing, I prefer the softer ball for my short game)

My striking is far too inconsistant to make best use of a premium ball. I'm now using Wilson DX3 balls after hearing lots of good things about them.

However, the course is so wet at the moment I'm using pickups and rubbish out of the practice bag. It hasn't seemed to affect my scoring at all :)

Got to agree with you, using the same ball week in week out is better for consistency.
At my level of golf Noodles are fine for my needs (and my wallet). If I need a softer ball in the summer then I use the noodle + instead.

I agree with those from the stick with the same ball camp.

I used to save Pro Vs for comps and use NXT Tours or other mid-range balls in practice games. Absolute madness... I had no idea how the ball would react off the club around greens as I just wasn't familiar with it.

Having a winter ball and a summer ball makes sense if you stick with them and don't flip back and forward from one round to the next.

I've been through all kinds of silly phases with ball choice, from the "I can't hit Titleist" to "I only play Maxfli and they've stopped making them"

In the end, just find a ball that suits your wallet and game and stick with it... don't be swayed by marketing and other people's views to keep swapping around.

It's you, not the ball...

Absolutely agree with this. I use yellow Pinnacle Gold Precision balls in winter (just paid £9.99 for 15 of them yesterday at AG!!) and Taylor Made Burner TP's in the summer when the greens are firmer.

I play AD333's all year round.

As James said previously, I know what to expect from it, both in summer and winter.

I stated in another thread about trying some Srixon Trispeeds for a little more control with the short game, but, for now, I'm content.

i found 4 mint pro v's on saturday

i'm generally a late starter on the weekend competitions, seems to be a good startegy to find pro v's, there's normally a few lying about

they're superb around the green, i can't really personally tell if there is any loss in dsitance, the pro told me premium balls actually go further due to the compression not sure whether this is right though?

At the moment, for me, Tour balls are a bloody liability.
With the greens being so soft I'm getting huge backspin from almost every club in the bag (putter, driver and 4 wood excepted).

Scratch the 4 wood from that - used a ProV today and got 2 feet of backspin with the 4 wood from 210 yards across the wind.....

Bloody Tour Balls:confused:
