As part of my new fitness regime I have started using a powerball.
Has anyone here used this this device? Has it helped fitness? Has it helped their golf?
I am hoping for a bit of distance on my drives. I got one yesterday about 10 or 20 yards further than usual but the course has dried out and there was a bit of wind behind so perhaps I am kidding myself.

I have one, the NEON NSD PowerBall, and I have to admit that it is pretty good. At first it took a while to get used to the gyroscopic motion, but after eventually when you get into the rhythm its great!

My high scores are ridiculously low :D with the best being with my stronger left hand of 9768

They are good fun and hard work but are highly addictive, especially if you are always trying to beat your PB's!

Have used mine on and off for a about a year now. Great fun and you certainly feel it afterwards.

level5s,
"so what do these Powerballs do?"
Yes that is what I wish to know. Does it improve one's golf or is it just a bit of fun?

I would give it a miss and buy hand grips instead. I got a powerball about 5 years ago but didn't use it for very long because unless you are absolutely ambidextrous you can't work your right and left sides equally. I could get it spinning great with right but only half as quick with left.

I wanted equal conditioning in forearms and hands as golf is a two handed sport. Hand grips are great as far as I'm concerned as you can do the same amount with each side. Also have tried the gripmaster but the hand grips are better than that too imo.

birdieman,
I had hand grips once. I used them so much I got into trouble for gripping my wife's arm in my sleep.

I have the Signature Series one and it is fab. Why have a dog when you can bark for yourself. ;)
Signature series is brilliant, it really does hurt the first few times but is worth keeping at. I find around 10 mins is plenty with an effort at the end to get faster and faster readouts.
Are you able to start yours without the string yet?

I got one for Christmas a few years back but I couldn't get on with it and felt I wasn't getting equal results so I jacked it in. I have a weak right wrist from breaking it as a kid so I can't go too mad anyway.

I have one and think it is a great way of strengthening your forearms and I think the only addition that could be made to the product would be gaining endorsement from Paul Casey ;)

I am obviously fortunate as I can get about the same 10,000 score with my right and left arm.

Conversely to what birdieman said as well I find it better than hand grips for working both arms equally as I could never do as many 'squeezes' with the left hand grip as I could with the right.

Overall I think the product is great but I haven't really used it enough to reap any real benefit such as more distance but maybe if I start using it more it will.

Hee hee, I knew that when I joined a Golfing forum that there'd be talk of Powerballs. I've got several and have been Powerballing for years. Only recently taken up golf, so I can't comment on a Powerball's ability to increase yardage, but at 38 my wrists, forearms, biceps, triceps and shoulders are in the best shape they've ever been in my life, all because of Powerballs. And I like to think I can hit the ball quite a long way! ;)

Use them most weeks, and any time I ever get any sort of ache or pain in my arms it's gone within days.
