got to be links, nice sea view, firm sandy fairways, luck of the bounce,and fighting the elements, golf as it was supposed to be played.

I really don't get that last comment...

And you don't get a sea view at St Annes old links or royal Lytham:)

End of the airport runway and a demolished Pontins if your lucky..

I was watching the BMW last night and was thinking how I would much rather play Wentworth than St Andrews.....
 
Links/downs courses for me. I love the variation the wind brings, one day the par 3 is a short wedge, the next in the wind it could a hybrid. You never play the same course.
 
Prefer playing links golf, but I probably enjoy 'the walk' round a woodland course more (I like trees, what can I say).

Proper links golf is more of a challenge as you are playing against yourself, the course, the field and the weather (esp when it's blowy). By 'proper links' I mean a course where the sea is visible and the course borders the beach/sea. I kinda feel cheated when I play a links course and I struggle to sea water on most holes.
