Playing solo!!!

Im a big fan of roll ups and think more clubs should do it. Dont get me wrong here I like the fact you can play golf on your tod but lets be honest the game is better played with someone else or other groups. Banter and social interaction is a major part of this game although one could argue the pros dont demostrate nor take part with that on tour , its a major part of the fun aspect for us amateurs.
Speak to your club and I would imagine they can set a roll up up! :) if they havnt already and if the pro is offish about high handicap players etc then then need to be named and shamed!! :( Any decent golfer worth his salt wont mind playing with high handicappers ( myself included unless they are a complete bandit :) !!) providing they have a grasp of the rules and a decent level of social skills and etiquette. Have fun and get involved fella

Sorry for the newbie daft laddie question, but what exactly is a roll up?

Anyone who fancies a game just 'rolls up' to the club for a certain pre-agreed time. At the appointed time 'entry' to the roll up is closed and playing groups are then usully 'drawn ' at random from those who have rolled-up and entered the 'roll-up'. Few quid in a pot as entry and off you go.

Doesn't sound that much different to the medals at my club except you enter 2 weeks in advance and pick a preferred time slot.

Sounds like fun. I'll ask my club if they offer it

Not usually something the club arranges - usually just a group of guys decide that they all turn up for say 11am - and let it known that anyone can join them. As it happens my club has gathered the times of all roll-ups that happen during the week and distribute this in their regular comms to members so that all members are aware when the roll-ups are. The point of a roll-up is that it is truly open to anyone - so you must NEVER feel awkward about going up to the group and saying you'd like to join.
