Players distance irons- set gap wedge or otherwise?

I'm doing a bit of research at moment, been thinking of changing irons with over 6 months at this stage. Thinking about what most refer be as "players distance irons"
TaylorMade p790 gets good reviews. My concern would be gap from PW to gap wedge. There is a 50 degree wedge available with the p790, would this blend in better to gap with the pw? Given same construction, face, etc
Or would a specialist 50 degree work out ok, interested to hear how this has worked out for others

Just bought a set of Epic forged irons.
The PW is basically a 9 iron so Gap wedge is PW.
Just try and maintain 4* gaps up to your Sw.
So I have 5 wedges now.

These are my scoring irons so it’s important to have good gaps.

I played 1962 Slazengers today:
8 iron = 44 deg
9 iron = 48 deg
PW = 52 deg
SW = 56 deg

Just bought a set of Epic forged irons.
The PW is basically a 9 iron so Gap wedge is PW.

41 deg PW is just ridiculous

You need a club about 46 deg for low punchy shots
A 52 for normal shots
58 for high floaty shots
Low, medium and high.
Then practice.
Anything else just confuses things in my experience

I see the PW and Gap as a 10 and 11 iron. Don't worry about what is stamped on the bottom. Its just a number. What's important are you have the right lofts set at gaps that suit you.

And ignore all the comments about jacked lofts and a PW should be 50*, they're not traditional blah blah. Again, its irrelevant.

I always go specialist wedges for anything more lofted than 50 degree.
It really depends on what you do with the wedges if they are for full out shots I would match any thing less than 51 degree

I was carrying 205yards with a p790 7 iron. So sent them back and got p770's instead.

I would have had to carry about 5 wedges to remove the gap lower end. Silly!

But why does it matter what it says on the bottom of the club. If the stick with number 7 goes 205 rather than the stick with 5 on the bottom. Use the one with 7 if you want to hit a shot 205.

Because that leaves 8-9-pw that go under 200 yards in the scoring zone.

Also that 205 7 iron isn't stopping on a green when it's spinning at 2800rpm!

You need to know your gaps first.
I’d personally like the GW to be part of the set. My gap wedge is basically a full shot club only, I always feel I have less chance hitting a dedicated wedge clean at full power.

Always had 50 as a part of the set but now went with the Tm mg3 50* to supplement new P770s. Find it much better for chipping around the green from various lies.
