Whoever it was said that stableford was a nice way to get into comps as medal's can be tortureous was dead right!!
I played my 1st medal last night, one of the last groups out and noticed that nett 69 (par 71) was winning as I signed in, got to the first tee and creamed it down the middle and generally played the front 9 really well, 2 highlights being the par 5 7th, I pulled my drive into the trees, duffed a chip out sideways, played over the trees onto the fairway for 3 and then hit a 230yd approach with a 3w to 10ft and holed the putt for par, then the par 4 9th, pushed my tee shot to the right and left 190yd approach which I put to 6ft with my 19* rescue and 2 putted for par.....walked off the front 9, 2 under par with great thoughts!!
And then the wheels fell well & truly off and shattered into a million little pieces:
10th - double bogey
11th - double bogey
12th - double bogey
13th - bogey
14th - bogey
15th - whats the terminology for 5 over par? its a par 5 and I shot a 10 (5 off the tee)
16th - par
17th - bogey
18th - double bogey
This tortured me as even though our back 9 is much harder than the front 9, i've played it really well lately. The horrible thing is, apart from the 15th tee, I didnt really do much wrong, just had a lot of unlucky breaks and missed putts. God i hate this game sometimes!!
Finished with a nett 79 and 0.1 back, gutted
