But I really did win ? and I’ll win again this sunday in the main comp ? as for integrity and honour ? no one cares who’s under 50 it’s just all these old people who are annoyed cause there too old to win now and hate younger people always winning. Time for all you old people to take up bowling or maybe knitting ?

let’s have a laugh everyone comment there age on there next post, let’s see how many lie ? or they probably just leave this thread now ?

Dear whippersnapper,
A few years ago, I won my club championship (36 holes off scratch for everyone) at the age of 58 years and 9 months.
I won the boy's championship (18 holes off scratch) at the same club in 1977.
When you win a scratch comp, let me know please.
Having a laugh and being jovially provocative is fine.
Being insulting is bad.

EDIT: forgot to mention our club scratch knockout. Won that 3 times. The final is 36 holes. Last win was at age 50.

Are you a Junior? The tone of your comments suggests you might be? If so, may people should go a bit easier on you, as you probably don't have the maturity or intelligence to understand why people would class your behaviour as cheating.

However, keep your feet grounded. If your identity is correct (George Campbell from Bonnyton Golf Club), you won a Division 4 medal with a field size of 5 (one of who was disqualified). Nett 65 is decent, but I wouldn't get carried away with a winning margin of 16 strokes, when 2nd place was a nett 81. But, the key thing is, I don't think anyone is overly impressed with a nett score of 65 for a player with a handicap of 26. If the player was a genuine 26 handicapper, then they deserve a pat on the back for having one of their better days.

There were 59 players competing in Divisions 1-3. I wonder how many of them were over 50? On paper, based on your handicaps, they are all better players than you, regardless of what you may win. The fact they didn't win their Division does not mean it is time for them to give up, because some young kid has won a prize with a false handicap.

Oh dear. Some unnecessarily offensive comments here. I’m sticking up for older golfers. I’ve recently won a club comp from 10 H’cp. There were about 100 entries of all ages. I’m 77 but not too old to be competitive ! And I’m sure there are plenty of others on this forum who think likewise.

I am not for one minute saying all old people can’t play golf just that often there just grumpy old men who have opinions that are way outdated. I have only been around golf a short time but it seems a lot of people in golf just don’t like the older generation for one reason or another. I remember a pro I used to go to absolutely hated them and even I thought he’s over the top but I forgot he’s been around them in golf clubs for a long time. He would go on about them being slow and not being able to get the ball off the ground and just moaning about anything. Guess My opinion is probably quite common in the golf world?

That probably says more about the pro you went to, that all golfers over the age of 50.

When you are in a hole it’s best to stop digging - then replace your divot. A lot of people in golf don’t like the older generation, the younger generation, bumptious newcomers, poor people, rich people, etc, etc. Pretty much like the rest of the population in fact. In a golf club you have to mix with all sorts - it’s best not to generalise about any group, particularly with foolish comments.
