Prices at an all time high here, £131 in response last time I filled up, that's 10p in a matter of weeks

Prospect of snow (rare these days) is a classic excuse for owning a 4x4, along with having to get up a hill.

A pair of autosocks is a far better approach than a 4x4 to dealing with the limited amount of snow we get in England.
Or if you're in a more wintery area (Scotland, etc) a set of winter tyres.

My hybrid told me to add fuel because I hadn't used enough over 3 months !!

And why are people buying bigger cars?
Do they think they are safer?

Because they carry a lot of stuff.
