PCC adjustment

there are bigger problems in the world than how PCC is calculated!
Agreed. Can we rule a line under this thread?

If there are 100 cards submitted on a given day, then whether a PCC adjustment is made at all, and how much, is only 1% in an individual player’s control and 99% outside that individual’s control.

On any given day, most likely the PCC adjustment will be 0. Occasionally it will be 1 or 2. Very, very rarely it might be 3. Equally rarely it might be -1.

On the very, very rare occasions that it is 3, it is going impact an individual’s HI by a maximum of 0.375, but there is a 60% chance that round won't count in the player’s counting scores at all.

So if a (maximum but but very rare) impact of 0.375 on their HI is important to anybody, then rather than spending time on a discussion of PCC, which is 99% out of their control anyway, their time might be better spent practising their putting or chipping, or learning how to hit the ball straighter or longer, or....now here's a thought....studying the Rules of Golf so they can use the Rules to their advantage and not get hoodwinked by their fellow competitors.

Since we got re-rated in the summer, and our slopes and CRs got reduced, We've seen pcc set to 3 after the majority of comp days..... With fields of 40 or 50 plus visitors and a few casual players before and after. Hcps not creeping up at all, as I've would have expected given the reduction of course ratings

didn't think it was worth creating a new thread just for this.

I just ran the PCC report for 1st Jan - 7th August for this year and last. Noting we have had slightly more days qualifying this year than last due to some works going on.

Interesting to see that this year we had only 5 days when the PCC has kicked in, twice at-1 and 3 times at 1; whereas last year for the same period we had 14 days when a PCC was applied twice at -1, 7 times of 1, 3 times of 2 and twice had a PCC of 3.

Just wondered if anyone else has seen such a change?

Missing days are when there were not enough scores posted to be able to calculate the PCC so effectively 0.

Time to open the Pandora's box of PCC again.

Just noticed on my WHS record that my latest 10 rounds all had PCC adjustments - 5 @ +2, and 5 @ +3. My own playing level is heading due South but it can't all be down to me.

I know it's heading into winter but has anyone else experienced this level of adjustments? Did the changes to the calculation go too far?

Not really. In the last 2 months we have had 2 occurrences of PCC kicking in, both up and on one of those occasions the tees should have been switched off and on the other most players cancelled on the day due to a storm.
So far this year we have had 6 of -1, 5 of + 1, 2 of +2, 2 of +3.

We had 10 non-zero PCC adjustments during October & November, with several +2 and +3.
Just a reflection of wetter conditions making the course play significantly longer, and there being a stark difference from the conditions we enjoyed until September, which meant courses played shorter and enabled some handicaps to come down significantly - many of those players are now struggling to play near their new handicaps (thankfully WHS will readjust fairly quickly).

I can see similar at other courses in England. The following table shows the number of PCC adjustments per month this year (worth bearing in mind there are fewer acceptable playing days during the winter months, October-March, but it's impossible to know how many days are lost or how many days the minimum 8 score threshold was not reached (without spending far more time than I care to analysing the data), so the figures aren't a complete picture):

I have seen several this year. I do not play in comps but I bet there were a few in those judging by the scores.

One was a 3 and I have not seen that before.
