I'm just in the process of joining another club, been at multiple clubs before and you always paid the SGU, now Scottish Golf for each of them. It was mentioned a while ago that you should now only be paying 1 fee no matter how many clubs.. Club are saying that is not the case and want the £14 or so again.

anyone heard or know different?

It's still a fee per club. It was a proposal of the SGU a couple of years ago to change to a single (more expensive) fee within the CDH system but it all got rejected and was one of the factors in the management regime change that ensued.

please find further details regarding the annual affiliation fee.

The multiple affiliation charge to golfers across the country has provided much confusion and concern.

I believe the biggest factor to that confusion is that the affiliation fee charged to the club is based on a per capita basis.

This fee goes directly to supporting your club with specialised resources which aim to develop a strong club and committee, supporting the greenkeepers with environmental challenges and improving course quality for golfers, increasing the membership as well as access to dedicated buying group which heavily discounts and reduces costs for the club. These are just a few of the services that we can provide the club.

This fee puts money back directly in developing the game in Scotland through this strengthening of the clubs and courses.

We often get asked “as a golfer, what does Scottish Golf do for me?”.

We always try to highlight that the above support goes directly to any club that you are a member of and that the fee supports the game we are developing for the future. As an individual golfer, our expertise can support the quality of your golf courses, improve the environment at the club, increase membership and we also administer your handicap record irrelevant of how many golf courses you are a member of. The individual golfer also accesses special promotions and discounts.

The per capita calculation gives the impression the individual golfer should be receiving something specific at each club. In reality, it is the current way we calculate the fee the club pays to affiliate to us to support the growth of the game and gain access to expert resources. This in turn provides a better experience for the golfer on the course. Some clubs recharge this cost back to the golfer, some absorb the cost. Either way, the affiliation fee charged to clubs is deducted from the club overall income and is another charge to the business like any other.

Like I said, the per capita calculation is something we wish to look at – not a simple task as you can imagine given 580 clubs, each with individual circumstances, agenda and member requirements.

We want to make our sport sustainable for the future and have ambitious plans to bring this to life. As part of that we intend to shout from the rooftops the benefit we bring to golf in Scotland and hopefully with our new digital platform available free to our clubs and their members, big impact will be seen soon. I hope this helps somewhat ease your concerns regarding this matter.

Seen some one practicing on the old first 8 holes the other night 👀
Would never expect that issues at Nairn to be fair.

So you have to pay Scottish Golf twice the fee if you're a member of two clubs ? and thrice if three clubs and so on ? as I couldn't be bothered reading all that post.

I’m at 3 clubs currently and paid union fees at each.

Each course is aware I’m at multiple clubs for handicap purposes so would assume the union fee per club is the norm?

How do they justify taking the same money off of one person 3 times ? I can't understand that, may be it was explained in the email but it just seems like extorting money to me.
