Off to the algarve tomorrow and was looking to play Old and Oconner courses. don't know why but age ended up having a look st these two courses. Palmera looks well rated, Silves not so but it sounds nice and away from the local tourist courses. Got a car for the stay so travelling not a problem.

cheers.

Played Palmares earlier this year, tough but a great course, right down by the sea, with a links feel.
Grab a course planner!

I'd play it again like a shot

Just had a quick look and if I get chance will give them a buzz tomorrow before we leave cheers JCW me man.

i've played both, Palmeres has 27 holes, nine of which I believe to open to members only, some great holes and views. tbh struggling to remember much about Silves, although I'm sure it wasn't the worst course I played during my week in Portugal

Silves is a decent course, with one or two very good holes. The par 5's particularly - I think it's the 5th holes where you tee off from about 100 yds above the fairway, the ball stays in the air forever!

Cheers boys, had a quick play on the tinternet and deffo plumping for Palmares and now Vale da Pinta has come into the equation. Looks a nice course.

As a tourist saddo, al be doin a good bit of driving and most of it looks like being, Portimao, Lagos, Sagres area with Ponte da Piedade pulled in along the way.

On the weds night we get back, staying in Luton to go straight to the British masters. Hope me Galvin green trousers will fit coz ave got some gorgeous resturaunts lined up.

Vale De Pinta is nice, drop the mrs off in Carvoeiro for the morning for a mooch and some lunch, lovely little town/village in a bay.

I'd second that, we were in a villa just up the road so thought we'd give it a try (2007). It was very reasonably priced as I remember, obviously not a championship course etc but not at all bad and very good value.

I go to Portugal about 4 times a year and have played all the Western Algarve courses loads of times.
Vale de Pinta - great course, always in good nick
Gramacho - next door to Vale and probably slightly more interesting to play, also always in great nick
Silves - my favourite of the 3 - some spectacular views and always in great conditioin
Salgados - down by the sea with lots of water! Again, some good holes andgreat to play
Alamos - short, but very tricky in places - again very enjoyable
Morgado - sister course to Alamos - a long course with some great holes and always one we play.
Alto - a lot of fairly tight holes with trees on each side, also has the longest par 5 (660 yards!) in the Algarve.
Penina - expensive and a bit samey - also a bit 'tired' and needs some investment. It is also expensive and not worth the money.

Boavista - a lot of the holes are through the houses - not one of my favourites.
Parc de floresta (now called Golf San Antonio - some very steep hills but I love it!

and finally - Palmares - completely re-built 5 years ago and now has 27 holes. Only 4 of the original ones remain. A great course, not a weak hole in the 27. Always in superb nick and some great views as you go round. It is tough but not that tough. For example, went with some friends last year and my mate's wife, playing off 23, scored 39 points!

I will also add - Vale do lobo, The Ocean course and the Royal course. Both fantastic.

Any more detailed info required give me a shout - I part own a property at Parc de Floresta.

Cheers rooter and terry. Looks like vale da pinta and palmares. With a little trip to calviores

Boavista through the houses??? maybe the 1st and 3rd you can see brickwork but after that you are basically on the cliff tops, great views (not as good as Palmares granted but still good!) and some of the best holes you can play, there are more signature holes than on any course I have played.. OK its not always in the best of condition and is a tad overplayed but its still great fun to play. one of my favourites.. AND nowhere is more through the houses than the Vale do Lobo courses still great though..

Well said farmergeddon , we have stayed at Boavista several times and it is a great course. Another one nearby is further inland called Espiche with a new clubhouse and quite a challenge. Twilight deals are worth looking at.

Many Thanks for the help boys. Ended up booking palmares and faldo coz i got a stonking deal for both €163. Spent a day sat bulging in me speedos and crocs. Apartment is 150yd from Pinhal driving range. Booyakasha.

It's a shame you're not going to Silves, I can recommend a cracking LOCALS restaurant there. Cheap as chips, but the best in the town by a country mile, hence why the locals are all in there.

Hi Crazyface. I'm going out next month so would appreciate the name of the restaurant.

Thanks
