Played with a bloke yesterday that I don't especially warm to. He's ok. just on the course he's a pain in the backside. Slow play, no etiquette etc.

He's struggled with his putting with 4 putts not uncommon. He was playing OK but insisted on celebrating with a fist pump and a shout of yes every time he made a putt over 2 feet, even if it was for bogey.

I pride myself on being pretty chilled out on the course, but this really annoyed me. I had to have a little word with him on the back 9 about how annoying this was!!

I feel a bit guilty today. Celebrating a birdie, great par save maybe but a 3 foot putt for bogie ??

Am I turning into a grumpy old killjoy ? or is this understandable ??

is there a better way to deal with this than wrapping my wedge around his neck ??

Sounds like he is a high handicap player and as such we have to celebrate the little victories as and when they occour

A bogey putt could still be for 2 points,

I have been known to yell and fist pump when a long putt falls to give me a 7 for 1 , better than a blob

Let him have his moment, does nobody any harm

Fragger

What ever happened to a self satisfied understated smile, and maybe a firm congratulatory handshake ???:o

When did fist pumping and whooping become the order of the day?? It's a weekly stableford comp not the ryder cup :D

I have played with a few who have done this.

Let it slide.

Some have rounds where they never hole out over 2ft.

I understand its annoying, but for some a 2ft + that drops for a bogey may be a bigger milestone thatn you think.

Maybe head out with him for a knock and help him with reading putts.

Ash!!

i can see why someone would celebrate saving a point with a nice putt but this guys sounds OTT. your not grumpy at all.

The other thing is that he is always asking for advice. (after a 30 yard duck hook) 'what did I do wrong?'

I'm the most untechincal golfer in the world, I haven't a clue, He needs to play with James!!

Maybe the celebration is the final straw!!

does it for me - not only does everyone have their own targets/objectives and 'wins' but any achievement should be rewarded.

however - every hole, every putt? this doesn't help anyone. Lot's of scope for a constructive observation long before the sarcasm or wrapping putters.....

I'm all for a fist pump whn I make a decent putt for par or birdie but every hole is a bit OTT, even for a high handicapper. Not sure it would bother me though - unless it was his 4th putt

Hope you didn't mind that Seve type fist pump for birdie at the last yesterday or the one for par at 13 then. Given the way the front nine panned out I was almost going to celebrate anything going forward and still in play at one point

Welcome to the grumpy old mans club."good innit". A quite yes under your breath is enough. Whatever next "in the hole" on every tee shot. We don't come from the colony's now do we?

my point exactly, there is no point in being so excitable !!!

Maybe the problem is that I'm standing on the abyss of grumpy middle age, rather than embracing it I'm more interested in look to apportion blame !!:(
