Opinion from those with Taylormade R15 driver

Everyone knows that TM along with Callaway release clubs on a regular basis - Ping are also following the trend with recent releases getting more and more regular

Everyone knows that when you buy a new TM driver there will be a new one released in th future and sometimes quickly dependant on the success of the driver

It doesn't make the driver you purchase any different in performance for you - you will still
Hit the same as you did when you bought it and it will still work for you

It's a kick in the knackers when you buy the driver for nearly £300 notes then a couple of weeks later they bring a new model out.

Saying that there's no bigger fool than a golfer when it comes to buying the latest gear.

I'll admit to paying 299.99 for mine but they were more expensive up until recently too.

Looks like your looking to be talked out of the r15 just get one if you want it. I would buy something I want over something that suits me and work on getting used to it

Felt a lot of recent TM drivers have felt dead off the face. With the new model out yesterday, prices of existing models should start to fall in the next few months. The best advice I can offer the OP is to try before you buy and see what works for you. Not rocket science really

Yes that is the very frustrating part - pay a good price then finding it cheaper in the next couple of weeks

I have the R15 9.5 stiff speeder shaft
I previously had the G20, I'll admit that the R15 can feel slightly dead on the face but it does feel sweet when you get it out of the Middle, this adds to the feedback on off centre hits for me. I have gained distance and I am straighter than I was off the tee. I'm not a lover of TM but couldn't argue with the results I got.

Also there is a lot of adjustability and you really can feel the difference when you move the weights about.

G30 SF Tec is not a closed face driver.

i have one and it is the best driver I have ever had. The free tour shaft (a free upgrade) is part of that for me.

it is so forgiving, a miss out the heel still goes a good distance without a massive slice.

Have tried the SLDR, no use for me - very low ball flight. Also had an R1, a great club on a good swing day but rubbish if even slightly off.

I had a sldr before my R15. The r15 had a much better ball flight and when I was being fitted for it the dispersion was much better compared to the g30, big Bertha alpha and the titleist. The good thing I can say about the R15 is, is that it won't be leaving my bag anytime soon. However it's horses for courses and all I can say is hit them all and see what works for you.

Thanks very much for your feedback, which shaft and loft did the fitter recommend for you?

I have the stock stiff shaft. Speeder? Can't remember the weight. 10.5 deg loft. Slightly draw weighted. Tried a few shafts in it but the stock one just felt right and the numbers were better. The distance between the R15 and the Sldr was similar but the forgiveness was much better.

What about a couple of days, do you delay buying presents for opening on Christmas Day because you know you'll see them Boxing Day at massively reduced prices, No!

We all know new stuff comes out, most of the time we get an inkling of when its being released also, so its all about being savvy. I'm in the market for a new driver, not to replace my SLDR but to run beside it and see if I can hit the stats again when I did my driver testing, it will be the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815, its now only £199 and I expect to get a little bit more off that in the next 2 weeks so it will be my winter project, I won't lose on it if it doesn't work, but how much would I lose if I bought something much more expensive and current, far too much..

The R15 has been a god send to me, I have struggled for consistency with previous drivers but for some reason this just works for me. I actually have the 14 degree but nit's the size of the normal R15 drivers so it's not a mini. I can then crank it down to 12.5 if needs be but the 14 degree gives me more carry than any previous driver and it is my go to club now. I've gone from struggling to play to my handicap of 6 to now being able to get there and a bit lower on a very good day. This was the last piece of the jigsaw for my game as my irons and short game are decent enough.

I also have the stock shaft as the tour shaft was offered to me as a free upgrade but it didn't give me any better numbers on the trackman and was a little less forgiving.

had a fitting for one a few weeks ago, only trouble was with the suggested shaft upgrade the cost came out at almost £400... not paying that much for a driver... unless it hit the ball its self... and 300 yards

I agree with potty mouth here. People know which manufacturers release clubs quicker than others. So if there is a driver in the range of the usual suspects that has been on the market for a year (or in Callaways case, 3 months), then there will be a new one will be along shortly. So you've better off either buying it as soon as you can after it comes out, or if not then wait a bit and get it a lot cheaper when a newer model is on the horizon.

I have are now tried a demo R15 on the range, and really like the club. Tried it initially at 9.5 degrees (9.5 head) with weights set at either side of the track and was hitting the ball well and getting a nice flight, and sound although it should be noted that I was hitting the ball out if the centre of the face repeatedly.

i then tried some adjustment by putting the weights in the centre of the face together, and found the flight again fine, and distance was better/longer. Again was hitting ball out of the centre of the face.

Then lofted the club up by a single notch which I believe made the club 10deg, which gave me a higher ball flight and maybe a little more distance.

Overall i really liked the club and the options to vary the set-up.

As a current model I, as would other paying customers appreciate a slightly longer shelf life. TM release models that quickly that it's almost as if they hadn't fully developed their previous model and it's only getting worse. The R15 was first mentioned around November last year. We are only into September this year and they're releasing a new model again where Ping 'seem' to be closer to 18 months. Maybe its just my perception.

Surely you knew when you bought it that, being a TM one, there was a knew model due to be released imminently!

As for the OP's question, it seems 'just another' TM Driver to me. There's now probably enough adjustability around to 'satisfy' everyone. I believe that after some initial dabbling, you'll find an optimum setting and leave it - just as I (a habitual dabbler) have done! Adjustability is really a 'fine-tuning' feature, not something that should be considered before any/every round!
