I'm currently considering a new driver and would be grateful of some feedback from those who have the taylormade R15 driver.

I'm not specifically buying the club to cure or solve a swing problem but I do like the amount of adjustability available if required, and would appreciate some feedback from those who managed to get some benefits from the adjustability. I'd also like to find out how forgiving the driver is when you don't hit the centre of the face.

thanks

Would suggest that you look at the model a step back and go for the SLDR - seems to be a far better model driver

Seemed to be that the feedback from some of the guys on here was that the SLDR wasn't very forgiving. I've read the reviews of the R15 but would prefer to get unbiased feedback from those who've spent their own money on an R15 to give their views and feedback.

Have had no problems with the forgiveness of the SLDR

Have tried the R15 for a trial period of a month and found it dead of the face - certainly no more forgiving than the SLDR

The SLDR dead off the face too?

Nope find it pings of the face - it's the best driver I have ever used. The only issue is the shafts aren't for everyone and a lot of people have found better results with the matrix.

The R15 felt like the R1 -it's why I think the M1 has come out so quickly

the R15 is more forgiving than the Sldr, it will deliver more off a slightly off center strike than the Sldr does so why there's not so much difference in the sound when the R15 struck from the CG or a little off of it - & why there is more of a difference in sound from striking the CG of the Sldr to a little ways off center

sound of strike is something that plays mostly into the 'feel' of a shot, except for more extreme strikes like skinning one low off the leading edge on a cold day ......

neither drivers have the CG in the place to make them the more forgiving drivers around so a lot depends on folks skill levels
the largest MOI & forgiveness generally will be with drivers that have cg placed low & back

- two of the most forgiving currently are the Ping G30 (not the LS Tec version) & the Cobra Fly Z - & if RH golfer & left to right flight is a big issue the other worth trialling would be the Ping G30 SF Tec.

for sure you gotta like the look of something first off as it sits behind the ball - then do they work good when you try trial them out - preferably on a LM so the figures can really confirm the shot results

Agree with Phil. The sldr is a better driver than the r15. Definitely not dead of the face. And i use the 430 version too!!!

I did a driver test at the Belfry earlier in the year and hit every current driver and some due to be released during this season, off centre hits were also a key feature of this test to so at 1 point the face of the drivers were sprayed and results compared.

I was lucky to have a SLDR built for me last year and I have hit every TM driver since and I still have my SLDR, the R15 wasn't as effective with off centre hits as advertised and added nothing more than what I already had with my SLDR and the Aero Burner was just to light for me, the only driver/s I would consider moving to or buying in addition would be the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 which gave me my best results both in distance, off centre strikes, reduced spin and tighter dispersion and also the Titliest 915 D2 for the same reasons, both 10.5*.

Very happy though with my 12.5* SLDR but I do have a Matrix Black Tie shaft in her :smirk:

I bought the R15 just a couple of weeks ago, it is a nicer club to hit over the sldr though the r11s is a more forgiving driver.
I am just a bit gutted with the timing of buying it though seeing as it's virtually obsolete already, I'd have held off had I known a new one was coming around the corner so quickly.

Why is it obsolete though ? It will still do the job you bought it for ?

As a current model I, as would other paying customers appreciate a slightly longer shelf life. TM release models that quickly that it's almost as if they hadn't fully developed their previous model and it's only getting worse. The R15 was first mentioned around November last year. We are only into September this year and they're releasing a new model again where Ping 'seem' to be closer to 18 months. Maybe its just my perception.

Everyone knows that TM along with Callaway release clubs on a regular basis - Ping are also following the trend with recent releases getting more and more regular

Everyone knows that when you buy a new TM driver there will be a new one released in th future and sometimes quickly dependant on the success of the driver

It doesn't make the driver you purchase any different in performance for you - you will still
Hit the same as you did when you bought it and it will still work for you

It is the imminent price drop he will feel the most.

My mate bought a Callaway rzr fit and two weeks later they gave away a free fairway wood with any razr fit driver purchase. He complained and got a pack of balls and towel instead. Gutted.

Ive got an SLDR 12* with a Matrix Rul shaft in it, its the shortest driver I've owned thinking of going for a G30

I'm not interested in an SLDR so the comments on them aren't anything I'm paying much attention to. I'm aware that the R15 is being superseded by the M1 but I'm not concerned by that as I'm not prepared to pay more than £300 for a driver, and I've been informed that the R15 is about to come down in price quite a bit in the very near future.

Ive tried the ping G30 and Titleist 915 and like them both but feel that I'd like to find out if the R15 is worth having a go with. It's all a bit subjective as some may love it and some may not, so it may come down to personal feel, but I feel it's better to get feedback from those who have the club and have used it.

Liverpool phil apparently had R15 for a month and preferred his SLDR, maybe just his personal preference. My interest in the R15 comes from the range of adjustability it gives, and I wanted to find out if people on here feel it delivers.

i tried the g30 sf tec and felt that it was just too far closed and couldn't hit it to the right. Also tried the g30 ls tech and quite liked it but not a great deal of adjustment. The R15 "may" give me more or less than the g30, but as yet I haven't been able to try it as AM golf don't have the shaft I'd like to try so HAVENT hit a ball with it as yet.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for TM if a previous model is better!

I think there's a few other manufacturers that this could also apply to.

For instance the Ping G10 is the best driver Ping have made and I've had the G5,G10,I15, I20 and the Anser.

Sorry to go off topic.

I agree but as I said, it's my opinion/perception that it's all too fast, I won't be rushing to buy another driver for at least a couple of years.
