Oh dear Rangers

Best thing to come out of Perth?
Stevie May :whoo:

Aye - we got £800,000 for Stevie and we must have got a few bob for winning the Scottish Cup. So maybe £1,000,000 income if we include getting into Europa as well. And who have we brought in recently? - Faddy on a free :( What a player he could be back then - but that was then and this is now. We might be financial solvent and stable - unlike the subject team of this thread - we get brownie point (whoopee) but that won't keep us in the SPL.

The day we sacked Kenny after he won the Carling Cup and got to the final of the FA Cup ( was said he would have still been sacked if he had won the FA Cup ) because we didn't get CL footy summed up the priorities in football now

Well, as a Wigan Athletic fan. I'd take our FA Cup win over another season in the Premier League every single time. In fact, I don't care if we never set foot in the Premier League again. That FA Cup win will always be my single greatest Latics memory..

Oh, and hearsay states that Big Davey also chose the Cup win over another season in the "Most exciting League in the World" at an end of season vote a few years ago. I think he'd probably like to get back sooner rather than later though..

..and on Saints - maybe Steve Brown (our Chairman) isn't that bothered if we get relegated. There is so little money in Scottish football that it almost doesn't matter which league we play in - we ain't going to win the SPL. We might get a cup run - and we might as a Scottish Championship club get to the semi or even the final. But the prize fund is probably not much in any case - maybe £100,000 max. So as a club we exist to survive and maybe get a cup run - and flog a decent player every 10yrs. Great.

Wow, a Rangers thread and 5 pages in Dodger hasn't had is say, can one of our Scottish brother's check on him please?

I'm concerned here.

Believe he currently doesn't have the ability to post on here at the moment

Well done that man. In my part of the world, NE, the Sunderland '73 Cup Final win is still revered above anything done since. Peter Reid did a great job as manager, 6th place folks, but I doubt he will ever get a statue alongside Bob Stokoe outside their ground. For my team, Everton, Moyes did a top job but will never be looked at in the same light as Kendall or Catterick as he brought no silverware to the club. The glory of victory at Wembley is worth a lifetime of 15th places in the Premier League.

All hail the Wigan pies :whoo:

For me, Mike Ashley has an eye on bigger things which is his Sports Direct brand and having it showcased on the biggest stage available which in European terms is the Champions League, ask yourself this question, Who is he likely to get to it with and at what cost? No brainer, it's Rangers and for a fraction of what it would cost to do it at Newcastle. He could spend £300m+ with Newcastle and still not get close, he might just manage it at Rangers if he spends £20m+

Rangers fans need to be very careful what the wish for, they've had their wishes answered since Whyte was billed as the savior, the Green and so on. Mike Ashley might just be the man they need, he doesn't have to be a "Rangers man".

Agree with you. I've said I don't know what to make of it all anymore, you couldn't follow it with radar, and I think I'll try and avoid talking about it as the thread usually ends up badly. :)

What I do know is that as poor as we may be in footballing terms at the moment, we're probably only 4 or 5 half decent signings short of competing for the CL spot and title........ scottish football is that bad at the moment.

Of these 4 or 5 signings, would one be a new manager ;)

Pity The Rangers have spent in the region of £70m over the last few seasons to get where they are today.

Aye? I'm glad it wasn't 60 mil.............might not have knocked your lot out the cup if it was.

I'll stick to talking about on field matters methinks.

:)

My apologies, it was Wigan of course :o

Pretty much 100% of the Latics fans I've spoken to would quite happily take the FA Cup over another season in the Premier League. Obviously there are a few who would disagree, but they mostly were the fans that only appeared for the big games and haven't been seen since.

Birchy - I can't imagine Neil Lennon agreeing with that philosophy. Tell me you didn't agree with it, please.

Its not just as simple for me as that.

I would not swap a cup win (League or FA) for a spell of 3 special years we had in the premier league where we finished 6th-8th-6th and qualified for the UEFA cup twice through the league. We had a team packed full of quality and every game i went to home and away i went feeling like we could turn anybody over even all the biggest teams in the league.

I went all over europe watching us against some massive teams Bayern Munich, Partizan Belgrade, Sporting Lisbon, Marseille, Athletico Madrid etc and have never been more proud of my club.

That feeling of going all over not only England but Europe and people respecting you and actually fearful of the quality of your team is a feeling i will never forget and not one that could be topped by a one off cup win.

Fair shout. To be fair, during that period Bolton were doing something more than survive. 6, 8, 6 with UEFA runs is something to look back on.

If you said to me now a place in Premier league or an FA cup it would be a very eas decision. FA Cup every time.

Totally agree. Wouldn't have missed our Europa Cup odyssey for anything and while another season would have been nice we'd outstayed our tenure by at least three seasons. Not sure I'm that fussed about the PL at the moment with the turmoil we've had and nice to enjoy the matches as a neutral without an eye on how the result will affect us.
