Be gob smacked if this has not been brought up before but just got back from the pool
An hour or so ago. Lordy flippin lordy. Now don't get me wrong. Am probably carrying 1/2-1 stone of extra muscle. But some of the folk i have seen today are just massively overweight. Probably twice the size they should be. What was probably the worst to see was some Of the kids. They were just blubber some of them. When i was a kid, i think there was one fat kid at skool and he had dodgy legs that stopped him exercising. I used to walk or ride me bike miles. Think there's a massive NHS problem

Not sure I get why this is an NHS problem, unless you are referring to treating them. My missus works in the local hospital, and has had plenty of obese patients. Many of them had families that would bring bags food (crisps, choclate etc.) in for them in case they got hungry o_O. Surely the problem of obesity is down to the people who feed them, and the people who eat the food without any care for themselves or doing any excercise. That maybe a little simplistic, but I see plenty of obese people eating garbage that is not good for them, they are the ones that need to do something about it, if they want to change.
 
I reckon you're right, but it is a subject close to my heart.....I'm morbidly obese (5'10" just over 19 stone). I go to the gym 4-5 days per week (2-3 spin classes), I play golf (carrying) on the weekends, I've run 3 marathons at this weight, I did the 75 mile london to brighton off road ride last year......... not all cases are clear cut and I can honestly say it aint easy.

There seems to be a lot of obese people working in the hospital when I've been there.
 
I can't understand it personally. If I ever looked down and couldn't see my todger, I'd think 'Christ I need to stop bloody eating so much'. Plenty of people are a little overweight or not quite the weight they'd like to be, as it can be difficult to shift a few pounds here and there. But being obese is a different kettle of fish entirely. The only way to get there is to eat far too much and do bugger all exercise, I don't understand how anyone can allow themselves to get to that level - it must just be like losing the will to live. Because the next stage is heart attack.
 
It's a major problem in some of the town's near me, Ashington is the capital of obesity in Northumberland (based on observation rather than fact). It's not rocket science when you see their shopping baskets in the supermarket.

A woman at work is obese. One of her favourite lunches, now cut back on, was a giant pot noodle with a maxi bag of crisps scrunched and sprinkled on top 😱. I was saw her have that 4 days on the trot.

For every genuine medical case, absolute sympathy there, there are 500 self inflicted ones, or more. Anyone who doesn't believe that needs to look back at old news footage and see how few obese people there were compared to now. It's largely a new phenomenon.

Eat better, stop eating junk, exercise more. Not rocket science.

Adam. Have you always been a big lad. What was the first time to realised. Looking at some of the folks today. Exercise looks to be the last thing on there mind. ☹️

Since the age of 15 yes. I broke both my ankles and ruptured ligaments in my knee in a tackle playing football and piled loads of weight on.

I've lost some over the years but still never to be considered slim etc but then always put it back on plus more. I've been to the doctor who gave me some pills which had no effect, I've done some really serious training for various things and invariably put weight on..... Am I Saint when I eat? No, but I rarely have take aways etc

I believe some people are just naturally bigger.... Am I unhappy? Maybe a bit. But what else can I do without getting "extreme"?

People in general are less active than 20+ years ago. There are far less physically active/manual jobs around today which would burn far more calories than the call centre/office/retail jobs which were created in their place which are largely sedantry. In many cases diets are worse today as the junk food (sugary foods) are perceived to be cheaper and more easily obtained than healthier alternatives.

There is also an increase in car ownership which has meant people taking their car to go to places where previously they would have walked. Online shopping has also meant that people walk far less than previous generations who would have visited and browsed shops to purchase goods.

We are not as bad as America but there is definitely a growing obesity problem in Britain.
 
Saw a programme the other week which was on about bad backs and how many have them. Most of it was down to a lack of activity.
Adam. I didn't mean to tar everyone with the same brush re weight and all that and ad you say your “ battle” is not helped by injuries. But some of those poor kids and adults i saw today. Seeing families of massively overweight getting into the pool. Well in seems something is gonna give. I remember “ fat al” when i worked at the last pit. His waist was more than his height. He thought it was hilarious.
