Keep it up mate, so many reasons for not smoking, money, tax to gov't, health, not being smelly, living longer, playing golf longer, bragginbg about how you haven't smoked for X amount of years.

Just you wait, if you keep it up you'll realy notice how smelly and rificulous it is to smoke.

I only used to smoke about 10 a day from the age of 16 - 21, but decided to just stop, and haven't looked back ever since. I know I didn't have much of a habit, but to not to have smoked for 12 years now, I feel great about it.

I cringe when I see the cars in front of me, window open an inch, and smoke billowing out. If the driver is on their own, so be it. It's when they've got kids ( or even babies) in the back of their car, that I have to say something to them, it's so wrong.

The only way to stop and be happy with it is to read Allen Carr's EasyWay book. I promise you that it will be nothing like the cold turkey/will power method which has a very low success rate as with NRT's which are pants.

Well done, you won't regret it. My advice for what its worth after trying all sorts of gum, tablets, patches, lozenges and even hypnotherapy is going cold turkey gioves you the best chance of long-term no smoking (6yrs off the oilys). Also, its cheaper!

cold turkey might be hard but when it's done it tends to stay done.

be selfish, get those next years fees stashed away, a 'packet' at a time, that way it will work.

went from 100 a-day to none, 7 weeks and the worst was over - never wanted another one since.

But yep. Still without. Still not bought any, still not had any. And I've just noticed today how much my jacket smells. Can't decide if it smells bad or if it's making me want a fag!

Once again. Thanks for the support guys. I feel more positive about being able to do it this time around. Most I managed a year or two ago was 2 weeks, so early days yet. But how can I fail with you lot around. I'll look quite weak and pathetic now that I've gone 'public' and fail to follow it through!

Played 14 holes tonight. That was going to be a real test for the fags. First thing I did was tell my mates that I play with that I'd quit. At least that way there's yet more pressure not to have any. But all I had to do was not stop at the garage and buy some.

I didn't, I haven't, and I'm still clean. Played surprisingly well as well!

Still gaggging for one though. But I'm aware that having just one is just the wrong thing to do.

I stopped 3 months ago.
The worst day is the first.The second day is a bit easier, the 3rd day a bit easier, 4th day a bit easier etc etc
I'm now £300 better off
Keep going HH. It does get easier until you forget you used to smoke

You might not agree at the moment, but I reckon it should be easier this time, (you mentioned previously about trying).

The smoking ban in public places started in July 2007, so when I stopped in Feb 2008 I found that I rarely came into contact with smoking anywhere. From that point of view, in the early days, not coming into contact with "smoke", just makes it that bit easier.

DON'T DO IT! On my first serious attempt at not smoking I was off them for seven years when my wife (Now ex) and I had a row. As she was a smoker I grabbed one of her fags and went off to the garage and lit up. It was like turning on a switch! I was hooked again. It took me over 20 years to quit again. I now know if I have one I run the risk of starting the addiction all over again. Incidentally, my partner smokes and the temptation is quite strong at times, especially after a couple of malts.

Luckily my wife does not smoke and never has. I feel sorry for you if she does and you have quit.

Made it through today without one. but I've developed a cough, never had one whilst smoking, and my chest aches! Is this normal whilst quitting?

As of Sunday 17th May. It's 5 days.

Found an empty pack in one of my coats that I'm cleaning. Ah, memories!!

Still clean. It's not getting any easier though. As someone said. I feel like I'm between fags as oppossed to having quit. Its just been a long 'between'! But it ain't any easier.

Apart from the support on here, which has all been very positive. I think the difference this time is that I've told more people that are likely to give me positive support. As oppossed to telling those that only ever gave me negative support.
