Northumberland Best Options

Having looked at some previous threads Seahouses and Dunstanburgh Castle seem to be the two best options in the area. I have played Goswick before and know it's not too far away as well. Anyone got any other nice courses in the area. Going to be based near Seahouses.

What's the local recommend at ions.

Alnmouth, Foxton Hall is a super course, always in good condition & drains well when it's wet.

Foxton is good but in my humble opinion Bamburgh is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. The views are tremendous, the course is quirky but great fun and the design is out of this world, the view when you walk round the corner of the 17th takes your breath away.. OK its not long but for a visitor it gives you a chance..

I should add that Seahouses is quite bland except it has 2 of the best par 3s you will find anywhere..

Foxton and Bamburgh are definitely ones I'd recommend, as others have already suggested. Some really like dunstanburgh, others less so. Newbiggin seems to get good reviews by a lot of people. If you want a forgiving, decent parkland course with very good greens then Burgham is an alternative.

In order, I would suggest to a visitor to the county Bamburgh, Foxton, Newbiggin, Burgham, Dunstanburgh. All of those are more interesting than Seahouses imo.

If you see other options feel free to post them and we can pass on advice.

Yeah agree with seahouses been bland.
Dunstanburgh is better
Foxton is another good one

If you play Bamburgh then get a course planner. There are a few blind shots. Don't let that put you off though.

Whats Linden Hall like these days? Used to love that course but not played there for about 5 years.

Linden is in good condition, it's my home course. I think the layout is as good as anything in the area, the par 3's being very strong and attractive. The weakness are its greens. Good but not exceptional. They are true but there is no pace to them, you have to wallop the ball even at the peak of summer. If they could put more pace into them then the course would be right up there.

You can pretty much always get a decent deal via tee booking websites and at around £12 a round it's a steal. Very rarely busy as well, millionaires golf 😀.

Really enjoyed Seahouses- ok, most of the front 9 is in a field, but the back 9 is really good fun. Two awesome par 3s, as has been said.

Northumberland GC was just OK, the racetrack spoiled the views.

Dunstanburgh is nice but make sure you take plenty of balls, it's extremely penal if you stray any distance from the fairway.

Foxton Hall
Goswick
Bamburgh
Dunstanburgh

But you can swap 3&4 depending on the condition on the day.

I play Bamburgh every time I'm up there on holiday,. As others have said great fun. Not a long course by any stretch of the imagination as it has a few drivable par 4s, but you come off with a smile on your face.

Suprised no one has mentioned the coastal classic which was Foxton, brilliant. Bamburgh which is one of my all time Fave courses and Goswick which was Ok ish.

me I like Seahouses which has some beautiful holes and some normal holes.

Back to Bamburgh. Gorgeous course and deffo buy a course planner. It has an odd start. Two par threes then two par fives if memory serves me right.

PS, for gods sake don't carry at Bamburgh, you will need a by pass at the end of it.

IM01, did a wizened old Seahouses member tell you that? I'm sure they are very good but best is a bold claim. Even so I don't believe that can elevate the course over the other courses mentioned.

no er yes I know Foxton was mentioned but it can be played as part of the coastal classics deal along with Bamburgh and Foxton which cost us £140 for the three courses. Looking at playing in Norflok for next year and wish I could get three for the same price that are as good.

Sorry, I didn't realise you meant the trio of courses. I read it as coastal classic, Foxton. I'm just warming up the custard now to put on my humble pie 😁

Goswick member who spends his summers on the Senior Circuit so has been around.
Does however use a broom putter 😀 All courses should have great greens this year, any maintenance would influence my choice.
Personal preference would be Bamburgh...but DCB may prefer an easier walk.
