Interesting question for everyone.

When you have a no return at one or more hole what do you do ?

do you enter all the scores from the rest of the holes or do you just put NR for every hole on the card.

Not sure myself what the etiquette is here and if or how it would effect CSSS.

I only ask because I have noticed via Howdididido that some people nr everything ??

I carry on scoring - NR-ing on one hole is not a disaster in terms of handicap.

I only NR if my score is already so bad I'm out of the competition, my ball is unexpectedly lost and a long trail back to play another would hold up the course.

Thanks for the early replies, maybe didn't say what I was thinking

What I was trying to get at was.

You may have a score recorded for 5 holes then NR keep a few more and complete your round.
But when you record your score on the computer, do you just put every hole in as NR even you actually recorded a score for that hole ?
Easier to enter on computer ???

Remember that even when the comp is a medal, the handicap system counts everything as a stableford. So your bad hole "pick-up" is only a zero points for that hole. Many players don't realise that their handicap can actually go down in a Medal NR round and will often make the buffer, providing you a) keep trying and b) record the other holes!

You should enter on the computer what you return on the card - what you actually enter on the computer is theoretically irrelevant anyway (but the idea is to assist the committee rather than make their lives more difficult!)
If you think of every round as stableford then it all becomes clear - and all handicapping is based on stableford returns.

I believe that some players NR their whole card (by not handing it in) rather than admitting to an embarrassingly bad score. But really, who cares! I very rarely NR btw: The one time I did was after shanking 4 balls in a row OOB at the 14th hole. I couldn't be bothered to go on playing after that!

I agree that the embarrassment factor plays a big part in NRs

I think we get disqualified and can get barred from the next comp for failing to return a comp score card .
